I'd suggest you consider counter stools without backs to minimize their appearance.

I'd select a less ornate table and chairs

I would worry on neither, light or stools until you have a table and chairs. Or an inspo for table and chairs! D. H " Might make the table" ........in what wood, etc?

Table and chairs will drive the other choices so wait . BTW I like colored stools in a kitchen for a bit of fun and for sure with all that dark wood.

Maybe a fixture like these - not overly modern and not too traditional.

The new table will drive other choices. Have you considered a rug underneath the table? It can add some interest at that end of the room.
