It has a finish on it. It's a matte finish, not a semi gloss one. A quick way to ruin it is to try to put a finish over that, and all the Pledge, and Liquid Gold junk of the previous owner. All of that retards adhesion of any new finish. Now you have a peeling sunburn mess on your hands. You either leave it alone, or you refinish it. There is no hafassery in wood restoration.

NO. Do not use that.

Furniture wax? Will need to be reapplied from time to time but would protect it

Wax is also a problem when you go to refinish. A modern finish does not need protection, feeding, oiling, or any of that nonsense. Dry dust with a microfiber is all that is needed. Period.

Tempered glass?

My parents had a Thomas Moser round table made from cherry. It was lovely. It was also a total pain. It needed linseed oil periodically, but sometimes, the linseed oil was sticky. My mother fussed over it for decades and finally polyurethaned it. I inherited it and love the finish. Wipes down easily. No worries about spills. None of that fussing with linseed oil. And it looks great.

Maybe it's a travesty, but if you have a family and it's an everyday table, I'd say polyurethane.
