Wall decor help!

last year

Hello. We’re in a new home and I’m trying to decide what to do with this great room wall.

The tv is at a perfect viewing height so we don’t think we’re going to mount it.

The plant is too fluffy for that spot as it’s near the slider used for access to patio, so will move it be replaced.

I’m trying to not have a ton of visual noise and cannot figure out what to do. The closet at right is going to be a cabinet and chunky display shelves.

Should I just do some large but neutral art on the left wall? We’d like to avoid painting or building an accent wall and its related expense.

Thank you!

@lynnielson but then that would remove the blue chair from the social area - and people do tend to sit there....? Thank you.

I don't like your console with your furniture. I envision a longer, sleeker white console that perhaps spans almost the entire wall. Move the plant out. Put up a textured neutral wallpaper that will provide interest without visual clutter.

@Tara thank you - the console has to stay but I love your idea for wallpaper and have someone coming to do another room so will get a quote. And I like your photos for styling the space. Any other suggestions are welcome!

I really appreciate your desire to lessen visual noise. Find the perfect art to hang in a vertical diptych in the space to the left of the TV. Perhaps black and white pics with nice walnut frames, or two woven circular trays hung on the wall that echo your console design.

The TV placement works, the blue chair functions as is, you are adding interest to the right side with with chunky shelves. Why busy it all up with wallpaper? I feel like painted or wallpapered accent walls are sometimes a default for what could otherwise be treated with a good design solution. This space is calm, your tv console is attractive, do you really need to highlight the wall with wallpaper or just find one more something to complete the look?

If the chair gets used, I would leave it there but move it and the console just a drop to the left. I don't see any lighting in the room other than the lamp on the console. I'd remove that and put a floor lamp in the corner. Then as suggested, some vertical art or baskets, if needed.

Perhaps a color backdrop would unify the wall.

This is all such great advice! It’s for my wheels turning - with design parameters - I so appreciate it!

Yes, off side the console and t v and move chair with plant.

    Congrats on your house!

I’d leave the wall color as is and add a very simple, balanced grouping of art.

Art here for placement ideas only:

Would the horizontal piece on the other wall fit over the TV? If so, I’d move it and replace with something vertical there.

Can you flip the chair to the other side of the TV console and still have room to walk (you could then place a tall floor lamp behind the chair with a small C-table)? You might flip that chair and the plant. The plant needs less space, and the chair looks insanely tiny and squished where it currently is.
