bathroom vanity w/o drawers—

last year

My daughter is building house and she didn’t pay attention when they ordered cabinets for home at design center. Their main 2 sink vanity has no drawers—just 2 double cabinets…only noticed how impractical that is after cabs were installed.
Will adding rollout shelves inside those cabinets be the easiest retrofit?
They have to framed walls at each end of vanity they can add a medicine cabinet to as another option.

Having drawers w/ as short a vanity as they have would not have been easy but the person in the design center helping her didn’t point it out as something she might want to change—which implies there was an option for them to use of course and maybe there is not…

Oh dear. They COULD install rollout drawers, but what a bother if they have to open the doors, then pull out the drawers. They might be better off removing the doors and adding some kind of attractive drawer units.

How wide is the space for the vanity? What if they replaced it with a single sink vanity with drawers? I know it’s not ideal, couples are often getting ready at the same time and need the sink, but…drawers!

Definitely add recessed medicine cabinets on each side. Dh and I each have our own.

I use this style organizer in my busy bathroom cabinets. the drawers each pull out. An inexpensive way to avoid the pileup of stuff.

You replace the vanity. Now, or soon after move in. Nobody here can say how to best fix it now, as nobody knows the length, the sink centers or anything else about this vanity. Or the bathroom in which it will reside.

IMO, the only place you can live with a vanity without drawers is in an infrequently used guest bathroom.

I had cabinets made and wanted a trash container under the sink that would pull out.

When it was originally designed and installed, it required me to open the door and pull out the trash container separately.

I lived for it for awhile and then had the wood guy change it so that the door pulls out in one motion instead of opening like a door. I don't know how he did it but he did it withut issues and it looks just like a door so there aren't any holes. I would imagine any skilled wood person could do the same.

FWIW for style reasons, I have doors in my bathroom vanity with pull outs and these are fine to use as I don't need to access the drawers frequently. However, I do have convenient storage in the bathroom as I deliberately opted for a medicine cabinet; my vanity has two drawers for on top for storage and I have a tower with one door and shelves above my built in hamper for easy access to a lot of items.

I also had the cabinet builder install a "floor" that slides out under the sink cabinet so that I have easy access to what is generally stored under a sink because otherwise the back of a sink cabinet becomes a no man's land.

I’d replace the vanity now or retrofit with drawers. I think it’s worth the cost. As an aside, my cabinet guy is retrofitting my older useless hamper/door cabinets to make it into a dresser style with 6 big drawers . It’s well worth the $1200 imo. My point - make it work for you, especially in a brand new home. Your daughter will be annoyed every time she uses those cabinets with or without the pullouts.

It's a production build in a tract. You pay attention, and if you hit snooze, you will definitely lose.

I completely understand you wanting to help your daughter. ........... but she's a grown up. It's not a custom, or even semi custom build. Rip it now, float her some cash to do that, or stop worrying on her bathroom: ).
