Whitehaus fireclay apron-front came with the house I bought, have been here going on 8 years now. I love it. No problems whatsoever. No cracking, crazing - none of that. I do have a stainless grid that sits on the bottom. If you get a fireclay, the grid is a necessity to avoid chipping and similar problems.

I have a Shaw’s Fireclay sink and I hate it. Ok, it looks good, but it chips easily. I do cook a lot and it is subjected to heavy use. Next time I will try a Kohler cast iron for sure.

If you perform a search for Fireclay sinks on Houzz you get 2,483 results, 2,482 of which conclude what you already know: Fireclay sinks belong in magazine shoots, they are pretty props, they should not be sold as sinks.

If you perform a search for cast iron sinks on Houzz you get 22,115 results. They’re great but they chip, are not made for use with disposals, and once they chip they can rust.

There is no news on this topic. Neither choice is a lifetime sink like stainless steel is. If you’re going to choose appearance over functionality, absolutely get what you think is beautiful, but understand the cost of making that choice. At some point you will have to replace it and even if it is under warranty, you’ll still have to pay for the labor which can be shockingly expensive. Just please don’t post another ”my sink failed what do I do now” thread. There are 98,578 of those. Good luck.
