i am putting in a 30 inch wide vanity and have 30 inches for the toilet space. it is a guest bath and it will work just fine, love your wall paper and that creamy lovely wainscotting!

What you have right now seems to make the best of a tight space. It is really a lovely space and the wallpaper and moldings add an elegant touch. I would not change a thing.

I would add a holder for extra toilet paper and put up a towel ring.

Why do you need a vanity oin a PR? I like the idea of the metal legs and sink if you must change something and a nice one piece toilet .

Thanks all for your input. I personally hate pedestal sinks and would like to add some storage even if its a small amount. So some sort of vanity is the direction I'm going, just need to determine the size :). We're moving into this house so its getting updated with new flooring and wallpaper as well.

I imagine the only thing you really need to store are spare rolls of TP, so a 24" would work fine and I agree with Jan, it would look better. It makes the room look smaller if you try to put too much in it. How wide is the pedestal sink? It looks like the perfect width. Changing to a vanity will also give you a little counter space, so I get changing to a vanity. It's unfortunate that the one you like isn't available in a 24" size, but keep looking, you'll find something. Post a picture of it if you want people to be able to make suggestions for a smaller one in a similar style.

Your inspo? Please fall out of love? Too busy against the lovely trimmed wainscoting, so unless you plan to tear the trim off the wall, .....and you shrink that 30 inches to a 24 by magic? I would say mistake in the making.. I think I sense a big rush here..........

This is not a I need to to do it RIGHT NOW type of space, especially in a brand new home, in which you've not yet spent a week!

You say it is 60" across but you have wainscot paneling and base trim so you do not have that amoutn of room. Code for toilet placement is a minimum of 15" from the center to the wall/vanity. Right now the assumption is that is exactly where the toilet is sitting. I would check that dimension as well.

Probably not. You need 15" from the center of the toilet to the edge of the sink/vanity; 30" total for the toilet space to meet code.

Thanks all! Appreciate the input. @Jan Moyer - unfortunately it is a need to do space right now :). We are having the hardwood flooring redone, and the current pedestal sink and toilet have been removed. I don't want to pay a plumber to put the pedestal sink back in if we don't ultimately want it, so looking to find the replacement this week!

I wouldn't say I'm decorating in haste :). I have a pretty solid eye for interior decorating and making my homes nice (according to fam and friends). There is no sink in there now, and its the main bathroom on the first floor so just looking to have both a vanity and toilet back in once the flooring is in. I asked the forum to hear different thoughts on the size of a new vanity and appreciate the input.

Having had tiny bathrooms and a tight contractor budget and timeline, I get your time and space squeeze. Wanting room for more than just TP makes sense as well. And, STILL, I'd find a 24" vanity, otherwise this PR will feel like 10 pounds of bathroom in a 5 pound bag.

Unless you have someone in your home with a disability who cannot do stairs, buy yourself another month plus the hassle/cost of another plumber trip. Or, fall in love fast with a 24" in stock.

BTW - I hate that pedestal sink. My current PR has the *same* one. I kept it, painted the walls, got a new faucet, antique hexagonal mirror, beautiful linen hand towels, and now it doesn't bother me one bit. With the right paint color on the lower wall and wallpaper on the upper, plus great accessories, your current sink will disappear. Find a clever storage solution for other bathroom items. But if you must...

Other than aesthetics, it looks too tight for code - most building codes require at least 15 inches of space from the center of a toilet to any side wall or obstruction.

You can't get a vanity with a backsplash and not either remove the backsplash or remove your trim.

I think the pedestal sink is perfect in that room. Especially with the trim and wallpaper. But to each her own. I agree with others. Don't get a 30" vanity.

Hoping for cabinet style vs drawers - first one is also 3x the price of the larger one I love :(, and looking for a taupe/beige, white or light wood color if I can find it. But really appreciate you sharing!! Will take all this into perspective as we're making the selection.

Interesting, why cabinet style instead of drawers? I have a vanity with drawers and can store way more in it than with a cabinet style. I do have to have trash elsewhere in the room though.

I understand not wanting the pedestal sink. I happily got rid of the one in my powder room, which is smaller than yours. (3’ wide, toilet at opposite end). I chose a wall mounted sink and the extra toilet rolls are in a brass holder on the floor.

UNLESS you are tearing off wainscoting/ trim? You need fluting on the vanity, like a moose needs antlers,: )

The busy busy isn't necessary, and is nothing more than a dust collector.
