Anything is a band-aid.

When you re-side the home, that will be the time to address it.

And even with a band-aid the siding will deteriorate. But that's not the worst of it,if there is wood behind siding below level of patio the wood will rot and that's a real beach to repair. Expensive lesson but it's cheaper in the long run to hire a reputable contractor than one fresh up from Central America or out of prison.

How large is this slab please? I would have placed an expansion joint between the siding and slab.

I understand the potential issues this may cause, hense the post. Just looking for advise on maintaining it and keeping those issues at bay. I don’t plan to live here for more than 3 or so years and the siding is otherwise fine so I wont be replacing it.

You can't "maintain" this. The concrete may corrode the siding and as pointed out above, definitely rot out the wood behind it. Only way to save it is isolate the surfaces.

Found this post somewhere else. It sounds reasonable so I'll probably try it and report back.

"Snap a chalk line up about 8" or so and run a skilsaw down that line to cut off the siding. On the inside, put 2x4 blocking horizontally between the studs and behind the cut edge of the siding, and fasten that blocking to the framing. Outside, slip a z-flashing up under the cut edge of the siding... allow about 1/2" gap between the cut edge of the siding and flashing so that you can paint it. Renail the siding to the studs and to the new blocking.

Where the concrete meets the building, install an L-shaped flashing. Run a bead of sealant on the concrete and set the flashing into it and fasten it to the framing. Then install a pvc 1x8 over that flashing, and under the z-flashing."
