Watch the blue tape on wood floors. On some floors it will lift the finish right off.

That whole area is meant to be your breakfast area and not crammed next to the sliders.

60" round would work, but moved into the actual space.

Dimensions of the breakfast and kitchen space would help to give better suggestions.

family of five when kids were around...48 in round was plenty big. the key is the pedestal base and appropriately scaled chairs...its your "dinette" not the dining room so smaller scaled chairs that you can skooch is what you want. how can you do anything with four corners and four legs w a rectangle table......dont see that working , at all. .

Personally I prefer a round table but I don't know if it will get tooo close to the stools on the island. What are the dimensions for this area?

Are you certain you need a table and 5 chairs here? Will there be seating at the raised island to the right?

The rectangular taped-off area parallel to the sliding doors doesn’t appear to allow room for persons to move around the table to get to the backside.

Those floors are stunning. They look like mine so I love them.

If you have the space, I would center a round table to the island. Is there electricity above for a chandelier?

The table should be more towards the island, not the sliders, assuming you plan on using them. A rectangle table looks like it can work, just make sure to take measurements to be sure it will work 100%. Please take a moment to look at our dining room and banquette designs for clients.

I love round tables and in that space it almost demands a round table. Waht is it you don't like about them just curious? 48" is plenty big for 5 as mentioned smaller scaled chairs too.

@BeverlyFLADeziner has a very good suggestion for size and placement. I gather on the side opposite the kitchen, is your living/family area?

I love round tables too too, mostly because if they are built properly there is ease of movement around the table and you can alway seat a few extra people. The same can be true of rectangular tables as long as you choose the right base. If you choose a pedestal base people can move around easily and you can always squish in a few extra chairs. If you go with a more conventional base you are limited in the number of chairs you can have around the table. You are literally hemmed in by the table legs.
