For contrast, I think nothing beats a nice big Liberty hosta. I love them. Sagae would fade into the green leaves surrounding it. But, that's just my opinion, you may want a totally different look.

I agree with Ken and miles. I have had hostas with crown rot. I was able to save Royal Wedding by digging it up, getting the best piece/s and replanting it as Ken says. Of course if it’s voles I think that’s a different story. It seems that a brighter hosta than Sagae is what you’re looking for. Have you thought about something like Sum and Substitute or Stained Glass? Perhaps something like that would work if you’re not able to save Liberty.

I haven’t planted the Sagae. I agree that it probably would disappear in that spot. I can’t go near my Liberty at the moment. It is directly below a swallow’s bird house with an active nest. The birds tolerate my activity in the area, but i don’t want to distress them.

So I dug up the remains of the Victory hosta. The roots were entirely intact. But there was no crown to speak of.

So I'm guessing it was crown rot. Can you tell me what causes it? How do I prevent it from happening again. All my hostas have been so reliably hardy, I just thought they were invincible.
