Mantis, I’m in the same card game. It has probably been that long since I had rain. Sprinklers are going as I type! It’s bad enough the bugs caused bud drop-now the dry heat does the same.

I like Joe Burrow. It looks good against the wall border. I can see how Star of India can be a scene stealer. Another eye catcher is My Heart Belongs to Daddy. So is Painted Demon. Fingers crossed we all get rain and lots of it.

I hope you get rain soon! Joe Burrow does look like one that loves to grow. I'm enjoying all your clump shots. My favorites are Half Moon Key and Dragon Nation.

Topping 100 Monday with heat index going towards 110 all week. No rain here either. Like Kate, it's water, water, water.........Burning So Brightly has a color that stands out, and I like the Petit Half Moon Key. I've never had one of his do well for me though.......Star of India is my favorite in this group. Not my preferred rounded form, but for a UF this form is my favorite. Petals look symmetrical, not floppy and sticking out at awkward angles and the color is striking....Maryl

So many great clump shots, hard to tell a lack of rain. I like Joe Burrow, those habits would be appreciated here in most spots. It seems we are experiencing the same lack of rain……noticed bud drop yesterday, such a disappoinrment

Half Moon Key is a Salter. Star of India is darker in cooler weather. Does not like cold nights, but is not alone in that regard. The cold night period caused a lot of damage, and now all the heat damage.

manis: Half Moon Key (Ed Brown x Seminole Wind) is a Petit at least that is what is in the official registration data and my files. I grew it in NYS and it had its bad and good years. The reverse cross was Karol Emmerichs intro "No More Tears" (Seminole Wind x Ed Brown) which I also grew in NYS.

I water in the evening...most evenings. Rain has been scarce. Your ph9t9s are beautiful as always. Joe Burrow is really doing well. My heart Belongs to Daddy looks really good: mine had a bloom-in the-foliage year. Burning So Brightly is a pretty one and I am a fan of pretty orange one. Cosmic Starburst seems to be a rare lucky mistake. Black Falcon Ritual looks wonderful. It had a good year here too.

Lovely post as always, Mantis. the stress is not evident in your photos...We are near 1OO and dry for days. Possibility of rain Wednesday, but even though dry the humidity is miserable.

Thanks, Julia, for that info. I had looked at the Oak Hills Daylilies website, and she has it listed as a Salter. Most Petits (a few exceptions) don't do well here, but this year Half Moon Key is exceptional. It has never been awful, but has stood out this year.

Julia's information was very interesting to me to. The reason is because of it's association with Emmerich's No More Tears. I grew that twice as I liked it so much. It never was a strong grower or profuse bloomer, but had a very pretty color and good form. After loosing it the second time, I threw in the towel. The Petit connection may have had something to do with that...........Maryl

I can't say I am excited by Cosmic Starburst, but we will see. At any rate, I don't see it as fortuitous to get the wrong plant; and it happens a lot with NL. I understand that it can happen, but how many times? A parent of Half Moon Key, Seminole Wind, is also lovely this year. Isn't it strange how in a given year, something stands out, while an otherwise stalwart performer is suddenly a dud?

Joe Burrow looks amazing. Ours is still growing the scape--it will be quite tall. It bloomed one puny flower the first year we had it, but last year it didn't flower. It will be exciting to see it. I also like Regina Sitko. Dragon Nation is a great grower in our garden. We just planted Purple Tarantula, one I have wanted for a while. Unfortunately, it's the one that doesn't look good. Hopefully it makes it.
