Have no idea what the ceiling height has to do with the pendant shape other than the light needs to light the island In this case I would have proably done a linear fixture . Or get 2 smaller pendants and be done I think those are too big for that island

As suggested above, smaller pendants (glass? cone or sphere? slim downrods?) would be a better choice, I think.

I think that spreading the pendants out another 6" each direction will bring them too close to the edge of the counter and the wall.

I don't agree with your designer. I have 9' ceilings in my kitchen and went with a round globe glass.

First of all… beautiful kitchen! I like your pendants and the spacing seems good to provide a wash of light over the whole width of your island. It may not follow the rigid principles but this is your home not a textbook. Perhaps when the other elements are in place, such as appliances and counter stools it may seem more appealing. If not, then you can always change it. Good luck!!

I think it looks great as it is! Probably wouldn’t hurt to separate by another 6”, but not sure it’s worth re-painting the ceiling for something so minor that already looks really good.

The spacing does not appear overly tight, especially compared to what I’d imagined before seeing the picture. Because the shades don’t have too much visual weight I think this is fine. Gorgeous, calm kitchen.

I think the spacing is fine, but the pendant choice would not be what I would have chosen. Though as I continue to go back and look at the kitchen with the pendants you chose, I think it’s beginning to grow on me.

I like those lights. I might have had another 6-8" between two of them, (normally its about 2' or more between pendants) but not sure you want to go thru the hassle of moving them.

Thanks @Beth H! Theyre 36” off the counter which for 9ft I dont THINK is too high? We’re short people but have a TV on the wall to the

right of this photo that we want to be able to see as we stand at the sink. Re: moving them out a few inches—Our contractors aren’t done in the space so it wouldnt be a huge hassle for US. I’d prefer to do it how we like it now since we’re a little traumatized from the reno process and wont allow anyone in our house any time soon!! 🤣

I think it looks great as is. the question will be whether you get glare from the bare bulbs under these when the lights are on- presumably you already tested this and it doesnt bother you. enjoy your beautiful kitchen.
