No one in the US uses the same techniques or materials as Italian-made seating.

Italian seating from the 70s can still be purchased. Why not simply order another of the same sofa?

If you like your current sofa what’s preventing you from reupholstering it? Fabric selections, local labor pool?

The sofa isn't available new. Natuzzi discontinued this model shortly after we bought it. What is great about it is the specific dimensions. Shallow seat depth and low seat height that make it really comfortable for smaller people, but still comfy for taller people. Lower wide arms that are perfect as an armrest or laptop table. And 3 cushions, not 2, which has been difficult to find on a sofa of this size (86" long).

Reupholstering is an option, and we have a quote for that that seems reasonable. But it needs repair as well. Maybe small, maybe extensive. Younger child did a body slam that dislodged a leg and splintered a large internal cross piece. And that's after 19 years of hard wear by a family of 4 and various visiting children. "Repair" at this point may amount to a full rebuild.

What does it cost to get a sofa recovered?

Is that an option?

Where I live in a NY suburb, it made more sense to buy new.

If you are looking at full custom anyway, I would look into someone repairing/rebuilding this one. It's a similar process.

You might find that “auto reupholsterer” is better at leather than standard furniture upholsterers. That’s if you want leather in a lighter color this time. Many people under “upholstery” in the local listings are truck repair/upholstery experts. Worth a shot.
