I would choose a simpler tile with uniform color, similar to the lightest color in your stone. The rustic looking darker edged tile is very nice but would look busy with your granite. A simple tiling pattern with matching grout would allow the granite to be the dominant element. And, of course, remove the existing short backsplash.

^Agree! Uniform color and matching grout will keep it simple and avoid competing with the counters.

I don't like the chippy tile look ... unless the tile has been there for 100 years and got that way through wear & tear!

Maybe if your house leans more towards "shabby chic", then the chippy tile look might work.

You all bring up very valid points. We’d planned to have the existing backsplash removed. Going with the more neutral Armada back splash, would the color variations in that work or would you go with a tile where every one was the same exact color? Picking a tile with this granite is challenging. Thanks.

I know it’s challenging. My personal preference would be the same color. What I wouldn’t want with your counters is more pattern as shown in your photo with the tile/grout in the shower. I suppose the Armada could work with a ”quiet” grout. It’s really just personal choice. Lots of people have counters and backsplash with pattern. For me, one or the other should get the focus.

Try to find a tile store that has the larger grouted sample boards. Very hard to pick tile colors from just one tile stuck on white cardboard.

To be really safe, I would buy a box of the tile. I prefer to take the loss of the cost of one box than the loss of a whole backsplash installation that I end up hating.

I can't believe you could find out so much online about the tiles. I am amazed at the scope of knowledge of this group, grouted sample boards, color variations and faces.

Yes. I am very open to other tiles because I am going to return these boards and look for another one. It should be easier to find a glossy, 3 x 10 like the Armada with minimal color variations since I have a better idea what will work.

Hi Coco, to avoid the busy look, you might want to use a larger format in cream/ivory with matching grout. Antique White non-sanded grout would probably look nice.

Also, removing the existing backsplash is a lot of work and you'll probably have to repair the wall before putting up the new tile.

That’s exactly what I am doing now. Daltile Color Wheel has a vast selection of colors, matte or medium glossy with several sizes. I’m going for a 4 x 16 glossy in biscuit (far left 3rd down) and matching grout. It’s a very vanilla choice, in all senses of the word. It was so difficult to get a shade that would blend, not clash with the granite and V1 with minimal color variations. Plus to the left is the molding which matches it. Unintentional but I like it.

I should have taken a photo of the whole board but you can see the 16 colors available. It’s a straight edge basic subway ( a little yawn) though the straight edges mean we can use minimal grout.

Can’t wait to get it done and paint over my 2000 yellow.

The flooring store said the above tile didn’t have a matching tile for edging. They wanted to install metal edging which I didn’t want.

I ended up with La Belle Purity by Canvas bought at Floor and Decor. I liked that it had the matching pencil tiles as well. The grout is warm grey but their installer put in less than 1/16th inch. The beige lines are part of the tile itself. The yellow walls are next to be painted in off white so it should probably reflect more accurately its off white, not grayish hue (like you see by the stove).

A nice perk is with larger tiles and minimal grout, it should be easier to clean.

My local Habitat for Humanity Restore was delighted to get the granite that was removed.

The Highland Lane, almond or bone colors might work. However it looks like you already have a 4" backsplash. Are you removing the 4" backsplash? You can do a pattern with the simple tiles too.
