Explosion in the gardens

last modified: 2 years ago

I have so many daylilies blooming I am wondering if anything will be blooming in August. SO many are early. The 90+ temps in early June took a toll on some of my early bloomers. On the good side generally I have taller scapes and bigger blooms.

These are the only nice blooms on Quasar Cutie I had in the past 10 days or so.

The heat messed with this plant and Moonlit Masquerade. MM has been blooming for a week, these are the first nice ones, heat again.

Night Moves is early and has taller scapes.

First blooms on Mysterious Eyes.

Crystalline Entity was sad last season, looks better this year.

Baby Blue Eyes on taller scapes….its early too.

Here Lies Butch had first blooms today.

adding more

First bloom on Brocaded Gown.

Orange Smoothie

Dances with Giraffes started today.

Ruby Storm with first blooms ever.

Little Showman, thought I lost it.

Little Castaway is a great miniature, good increase.

This is Kathy’s Orchid Bouquet. I mixed up a name on an earlier post and also discovered the seller mislabeled the plants I received.

This is first bloom ever on Night Flight, an unregistered daylily.

Heat will certainly speed up blooming. Explosions of color are pretty but you don’t want everything exploding at once!!

You do have lots of color here. I like Divine Design, Quasar Cutie and Night Moves especially. Ruby Storm is always pretty and I like seeing Brocaded Gown. Nice post with lots of pretties!

Brocaded Gown got my attention with the texture of its petals. Doesn't hurt it's a yellow. 2 thumbs up for an oldie but goldie that is photographed so appealingly......Little Castaway almost looks like an Orchid. Will have to look that one up.......I didn't get over to photograph my Orange Smoothie before it bloomed out. Your shot of it almost makes up for mine.......Night Moves is another one that stands out. So many pretty ones in this post..............Maryl

I believe the heat has a lot to do with it , maybe in combination with less rain, but my season is rapidly winding down at the end of June. Last year, I actually still had blooms all the way into December (unprecedented I might add). This year the explosion began early and lasted for a couple of weeks. Since I remove blooms each day, I know the height was 770 blooms and yesterday it was 238. Just as well, I have some changes to put into effect in my garden (as always...it is never finished)

I particularly like Night Flight, Ruby Storm, Quasar Cutie, and Here Lies Butch (like the name too).

The flowers are all beautiful. I think my favorites are Quasar Cutie, Night Moves, Baby Blue Eyes and Dances with Giraffes. My season will be over sooner than usual because so many of the MLs and lates decided to bloom with the mids.

How is the height on your plants? Dances with Giraffes took a nice picture. Ruby Storm is always so reliable. Kathy's Orchid Bouquet looks interesting. It may have to do with your uploading process, which can't be changed, but I personally get confused when the name is several spaces below the pic and right on top of the following pic. Of course, you do have the names on pictures also.

Mantis, Houzz messes the posts occasionally, and drops a photo at times. My fixes arent always the best.

Generally I have taller scapes and larger foliage this season. I have high bud counts on many daylilies.

Sherry, we have wondered the same thing about August. So many of our late bloomers already are flowering or at least have scapes. Even Autumn Minaret has scapes, but I haven't seen any yet on Sandra Elizabeth, which is one of our latest bloomers.

Night Moves and Quasar Cutie are my picks today although I do like Little Castaway. I was tempted to buy it a couple of times, but talked myself out of it. We just don't need anymore unless it's for hybridization.
