Reclaimed flooring expected colors

This is going to be hard for people to help you through a computer.

A good professional "stainer" will make samples and even mix stains to come up with the perfect colors. They will also be able to make adjustments if they are needed once the stain is added to the actual surface.

Thanks. “Professional” is a loose term in the rural area im in. My husband has been testing but I think we are just stuck with what we know. Will try some more stains and continue to experiment

IMO maple was thw wrong choice for the cabinets since it really never takes stain nicely and with so many different woods in a space that coukld have been avoided to at least make the other choices a bit simpler . The closer the cabinets and floor can be the better and for sure you are going to need a pro or be testing this forever . That reclimed wood looks rough so I ssume there are choices for both stain and finish so maybe get that right first . Too much going on with all the different wood types and colors for me . I do not think this will be solved on the internet .

HGTV gone bad........

It’s a mountain lake house so the look is rustic. My understanding with maple is that it will be an overall cleaner stain finish. The ceilings obviously aren’t stained yet. Trying to find a way to pull it altogether without looking like a lot of my neighbors homes. It does come together in the end. Thanks for the guidance - well except KateCowers

Maple is hard as rock and will almost certainly get you blotchy in a result.

Pine is the opposite. Soft. Yellow by nature, and can easily be just as blotchy.

Rustic is fine. You have a bit too much going on...... some thought to that, perhaps, and rustic need not imply wood everywhere. Maple loves paint btw and a warm green in there could be sensational. Factory stained maple is a better result than a local custom,or diy.

I think you are getting downed in wood stain color worry. I know, I too would in the midst of this beautiful space. You are seeing all this beauty in-between all the construction. Once you have a wood theme color going the rest of this will fall into place. Finding a color from that reclaimed floor would be where I would start.

As far as maple stain? So hard. Staining maple wood is so very hard to make look beautiful. But, here is the good news. Try it with a few samples. Dark or light... Look them over, see if they work with your reclaimed floors and other wood pieces. And if that doesn't work than go with the suggestions above to paint the maple cabinets.

Maple cabinets from a factory can be any color because the 'stain' is usually sprayed on as a tinted varnish. Most small cabinet shops try to use stain as they do on any other wood and it doesn't work. My only advice re too many wood tones is to match or contrast. The example photo with dark wood beams and light wood ceilings works because they are intentionally different. Close never works which is what you risk with trying to stain maple cabinets to be dark.

So Jan Moyer can tell you "there's too much going on" and that's OK. Hmmmmmmm...go ahead, pick on me. I don't give a rat's behind.......

Instead of introducing yet another wood product into the house, how about considering painted kitchen cabinets?

Soooo many good ideas on here, both from you and the other commenters. The problem is how to make the different wood/features blend without overdoing it. I do really love the painted cabinets, and it might help resolve some of the other wood features, if that’s something you are open to doing. I LOVE the ceilings, but I also like the look of dark wood beams with a white painted ceiling. Ultimately, it’s up to you and what look you are imagining/like best, and I’m sure you will end up with a beautiful space regardless. Best of luck!!

You do have a lot of different woods. Please use a wood conditioner on all your wood, before you stain, to make sure it isnt a blotchy mess. You will be happy you did. It takes a bit more time, but its so worth it. If your maple is being sprayed from the cabinet maker, they will make sure, its not blotchy. Or you could decide to have painted cabinets. Its all your choice. It will be beautiful when you are done.
