Basement color choices

Looking for some help with colors for our basment reno. Trying to decide if BM van courtland blue is too dark. Here are some notes and photos.

van courtland blue is in the bottom left corner of the samples on the wall photo.

a picture of the floor sample (north American oak. it's def a warm color)

a photo of the sleeper sofa color I ordered without thinking this through. does the red work with the grey blue?

a photo of a sideboard I ordered to in place of some cabinets that are down there now

the drop ceiling is getting replaced with a new one that should be a little higher with led lighting instead of the current florescent. very little natural light.

I am thinking like.. revere pewter for the trim/doors? and new closet doors? not sure.of that would look strange with the white drop ceiling, but trying to avoid giving it a "costal" vibe by using a shade of white..

this is going to be half guest room half husbands office and music space (see layout below) but trying to avoid minimal white walls or like... cold office feeling of grey.

my husband is leaning a light warm grey over all instead. but it just feels a little boring to me.

one window? I believe your blue is too dark for a low light space.

a lighter blue will look darker without any natural light. I personally would look for a less gray option, look at your choices at night.

I just sampled Van Courtland Blue recently for my dining room. I loved the color, but it is pretty dark. For you, I just can't see it with that sofa, which looks red-orange in the picture. Revere Pewter, maybe. I would want to look at a sample (larger than a paint chip) next to the piece of furniture, in the room where you're going to use it, so you're viewing it in the correct ambient light. You might want to look at Edgecomb Gray instead or in addition to RP.

You didn't say whether you have any natural light in your basement. From the floorplan, it doesn't look like you do. If the majority of the time spent in the basement is in the evening watching TV, having a light room may not be a priority. But with a red-orange sofa you could certainly use a warm wall color, and a lighter color than VC Blue. Even Edgecomb Gray might be too gray, although I think of it as being greige. Wait until the sofa is delivered and the flooring is done before choosing the wall color. You can always put the sofa in the middle of the room while you paint. I think if you choose prematurely it would be easy to choose incorrectly.

I think that you could do a dark color in a basement IF you have good lighting. I agree that the blue may be too dark but... if you have proper lighting you could make it work.

There are so many ways you could head. First decision is light, dark or in-between. If possible, suggest waiting until flooring and furniture are in place and lighting is installed, as it will have a huge influence in how a color and the room feel.

If you have a rug in mind, it may have a color you could pull from it for the walls.

To get a better feel for how each paint sample would look on you wall, you need to place them against a white background, not your existing wall colour.
