Ooohh! fingers crossed for success on that one. What a beautiful rose

Well my rooting was a failure (as almost  always), but one of my two grafts  took!

It smells very much like Madame Anisette, and although it's a tiny baby, I hope someday the blooms will be as big as my bouquet.

I've looked around and I think it might be the rose Avalanche, but I could be wrong.

Carla, it reminds me a lot of the florist rose Candlelight, which has a relatively strong anise scent and slight tinges of yellow and pink at the center of the buds. (Of course, there are so many cream-colored florist roses that it could easily be something else.) If I remember correctly, Candlelight opens fully and displays some lovely golden stamens -- a nice feature for a florist rose. Congrats on the successful graft!

I need to start doing this! It seems far more rewarding than hunting the internet for hours on end to then just pull out the cc. I don't know why grafting seems so intimidating. I hope I can overcome my own fear and try it.

I've gotten very few roses to root. Too hot and too dry here most of the year.

However I've been grafting fruit trees for a couple decades, so it's much easier

UC Davis sells rootstocks of various varieties, but I think you need to buy them in bulk of 20 (?) from them. Last spring, I got cuttings of both Pink Clouds and IXL from two trading partners. My mentor recommended those as best for budding. I now have 8 one gallon plants of each (both very easy to root), but my maiden foray into budding got delayed due to various personal issues. But hopefully I'm ready to start next spring :-D
