A mum or something else?

This plant was given to me by a neighbor claiming it to be a mum. I don't think so. It gets little yellow flowers that open and die after about an hour. Very disappointing to say the least. Does anyone have a clue? They get quite tall and are just starting to bloom.

Thanks for any ideas.

I have highlighted the area toward the bottom to show the pitiful flower.

I don't know what it is, but it's definitely not a mum.

Here is a pic of the bloom. They are only about 2"-3" tall - not too big and don't last very long.

I would be happy if they lasted longer as I like their look.

It is not a species I am very familiar with but is it not Evening Primrose? Oenothera biennis?

Hello and thanks. I will look up the two you have offered.

Very possible...however when looking at picts of EP, much different flower placement. Here is one I just saw --

This plant produces just one per area. They are just getting started, but maybe?? I like evening primrose - Thanks very much.

I think you are onto something. Here is a pict of common evening primrose -- tall as are mine and yellow flowers. After a search based on your input -- might be!! thanks....PNW person...:-)
