We had a LR with no place for a TV, so we bought a projector and drop-down screen. It works really well, like a movie theater and with a push of the button, it disappears back to the ceiling.

The cabinet used to be for old style deep TVs.

I think you need to think about that whole wall and not just about hanging a TV. Cover up window, remove built-in, put in a new linear fireplace that has less height than current fireplace, then hang TV above new linear fireplace.

The linear fp is exactly what I think would work also and yes just covering up window bc it has no purpose.
They just made settlement so currently they are strapped for cash for major work. I posted this to see what others had to say.

the furniture placement is what I think is an issue... I would mount the TV in front of those two doors/next to the firebox.

I’d get rid of storage cabinet and place tv to the side. Add molding to make it look intentional. Not sure if a smaller tv would be needed or if the 65” would fit there. I’m not bothered by the window above so could see it staying or going away.

Good to be thinking, but not do anything right away. Plan a temporary TV location— in front of built-in might work, hanging it just on a stand( not sure what they have) but also measuring TV, wall space, seeing how light from windows is, what are likely pathways through room , how many people usually sit there.

Then a plan can be made for that wall if that’s the best location, but will be more informed about whether current fireplace is still too high, how much clearance would be needed, do they want to replace it or just not have one at all. Do they expect to move again in a few years, or not. Are there other parts of house that need work first.

Definitely, a different approach to put TV next to FP eliminating the built in cabinet which they didn’t like anyway.

I'd leave the window over the fireplace. It's charming. I'd do something with the stair wall for t v. No measurement given by you, but son and DIL should take advantage of the wall. Spending a bit for a built-in effect of using a low console and doing something fun with that one wall.

Good spot for four swivel chairs to make conversation, look at fire, or watch t v.

Or, two loveseats facing and two smaller chairs at fireplace, facing t v.

If they put TV on stairway wall, how would you place furniture? They need new furniture so any ideas?

Get a smaller TV that doesn't overwhelm everything else and fits that cabinet.

When you have competing focal points on opposite walls, you have to make decisions/ potential compromises about how or who gets face- on view, or not. The 2 sofas ( loveseats are less useful, but need dimensions ) parallel to each other & perpendicular to walls is a commonly shown arrangement , but then each “ sitter” has to be angled in his seat. Multiple swivel chairs works, but not friendly for cuddling! A sofa plus two chairs near FP works & allows some tweaking when FP more in use or not “ ignoring “ FP if they just must have one for looks but it isn’t used much. Sectionals don’t work well for that.

You can search for photos of arrangements. But measurements and “ walking the space “ is needed.
