Why does the water have to be filtered?

It probably needs to be distilled water to keep it from getting stagnant. If you use it up quickly you should be able to just use tap water.

Our tap water has chloramines in it - along with fluoride, so I always use distilled water for just about everything, and for my steam mop and iron too. I have a countertop water distiller and you might be surprised to see how much solid stuff is left in it - and it's brown 🫤
