this one too. the bronze windows against the creamy stone really pop. try and get a solid color roof, withou too much variation in colors

I like the stone. here's what the bronze looks like next to stone.

what you might try doing is a heavy mortar wash on the stone.

You see how this stone, the joints, have a heavier finish to them? looks great w/the Urbane Bronze trim and garage doors, ORB metal on the lights.

or try a lime washing from Romabio. the Classico Beige color

I found a stone house w/the bronze windows (love the lights) dark trim, and if you enlarge this, a similar roof to the one you picked. get a larger sample. if that roof choice looks like this when it's on your roof, it could work. otherwise, i'd go the next darker one.

if you like a lighter roof, you could try something like this, but it's still paired w/the bronze windows/downspouts

another lighter roof, but has some wood posts and decorative gable trusses. those might look nice on your house

You talked about removing the stone, but I don't think you have too. you could remove some in the gables like shown in this one above, and too the batten siding and truss.

sorry, I didn't see any mention of the roof in these points. I just saw the pic of the shingle and thought they might be getting a new roof. I see that the word roof was omitted.

2. The former owners just replaced the year before we moved in. We will not be replacing. See picture two for close up of shingles.
3. We need to replace the windows ASAP. We will likely go with white vinyl double hung windows.
4. Willing to remove the faux stone. See picture 3 for closeup of stone.

IMO white vinylwindows are a cheap ;ook and you want to spend money on removing the stone thta is one big money tree needed I think you need to stop now and get a plan You can't do a new garage door but you can do all new windows , why ? I do not love the fake stone but removing it will be a big expense so have aplan for all the things you want to cahnge then work toward that plan IMO a nice dark window would be a good start it will pull the dark from the roof to lower down. The garge door in black to match the windows could be just painted for now. The go to work on some fabulous landscaping IMO a much better bang for you buck than removing the stone.

@Beth H - Thank you so much for your detailed recommendations. I do love the bronze windows. I should also admit that I made an error in my OG post by omit the word ROOF in my second bullet point. We moved in almost 2 years ago. Three years ago, the former owners installed this roof. It wouldn't have been my choice and I much prefer some of the options that you included in your post.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting - Thank you for your response! Replacing the windows is our first priority. They are original to the house and many of them are no longer sealed. I want to make sure the color of the windows fits in the grand scheme of the exterior refresh. I love your recommendation of a darker windows, darker garage doors and focusing on landscaping. Choosing options that are more budget friendly, could allow for higher end features elsewhere.

People used to live in their homes for decades and never even think of changing the details. You have a lovely home. I would add a pair of decorative shutters in gray or white to the one window so it doesn't appear so bare, and I'd replace the blue entrance door. You could easily upgrade and make a major difference by selecting a wood door with a stained finish.

The front yard is in desperate need of landscaping.

• White windows would be a tragic mistake on this house. See images below. Black is a big harsh, so bronze seems like a good compromise.

• The alternate stone you selected is IMO a terrible choice. I'd keep what you have.

You can apply gel stain to garage doors to look like wood.

If you want to draw the eye away from the garage, landscaping will be your best friend. Use it to frame the center portion of your home and screen the view of your garage. Your have a really attractive home as-is, but vinyl windows would be a major downgrade. We once had a contractor mistakenly install a large white vinyl double-hung window during our kitchen remodel— we were so eager to get rid of it we ate the cost to get a new wood window rapidly fabricated/installed in its place.

@BeverlyFLADeziner - Thank you for your comment. I appreciate the perspective that it is a lovely home and can be even better with a few minor changes. I love the idea of the shutter and darkening the garage. Unfortunately the photo shared of the stone IS the stone already installed-not one I'm considering. I'm noticing now that the photo of the house I've shared could have been taken in better lighting.

@ P.D. Schlitz - Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the windows. I'm seeing a trend in the comments, that white vinyl windows would not be the best choice here. I am definitely reconsidering! Also, I've been thinking about the landscaping here for a while. There's so much to consider when selecting landscaping, but I know it is absolutely needed! Honestly, sometimes it feels overwhelming!

Right now there is nothing to look at except the huge garage doors. Some really significant landscaping will draw the eye away from that. Don’t start changing structural things until you have great landscaping. Maybe a very important entrance besides walking up the driveway.

The faux stone doesn't do anything to enhance your home. So, would advise that you remove it if possible and replace with siding to match the rest of your house.

I agree that white vinyl will not enhance your stone exterior. All the photos Beth and Beverly shared with bronze trim windows look perfect for your house.

I like the stone! It’s different. Using the darker trim windows will complement it and make it even more interesting. Do that job first, then think about what color to paint the garage doors.

Are there three garages? It looks like the last one to the right is a color that blends with the stone. That is another option, to downplay the large garage doors and blend them with the stone. But FIRST do the windows. Beth’s darker door color might be better after you have bronze windows.

@RedRyder, thank you for your comment. I agree that bronze windows shown in Beth's post look great. There are three garages. A double and a single. Your advice to start with the window and see from there is a fantastic idea. I think sometimes I get caught up in knowing what the finish line looks like that I don't ever consider to take it one step at a time and seeing where where journey takes me.

Post an updated photo when the bronze windows are installed. The house will look different and you’ll make a better decision about the garage doors at that point.

I really like the stone! To me, your house channels Bucks County county like this picture. Starting with good windows is a great plan and will drive everything else.

Nice landscaping is what’s needed the most, & I agree, bronze windows.

One thing that I haven’t seen mentioned is that your existing trees look to be somewhat awkwardly placed. Ideally, you would have trees that frame the view of your front door, dormers, and the gabled section immediately to their left, while somewhat screening the view of the garage when in front of your house at the curb. It looks like your trees are currently doing the exact opposite of that, hiding the view to your front door. Do you have a picture with the trees leafed out? I’m not typically a proponent of cutting down trees, but I think you will likely at least want to remove the smaller tree in front of your porch area.

You may also notice that the tree in the middle of the front of the yard has been removed from the last picture I shared. As for the tree of the porch, it's the next possibly on the chopping block. I think its a Japanese maple and it's SOOOO beautiful in the fall. I love that part, but I agree with you that it's gotten extremely large over the years and blocks the front porch and even the view of the two dormers.

For some additional context, the house is on a hill that rolls down the driveway and away from the house.

gave you a decorative gable truss too( but if you were to try this, I'd go for a darker stain like a walnut, not this yellow one)

you could easily do something like this. make a path coming from the driveway to break it up. notice how the little corner piece in front and the ones off to the side, and under the windows also add interest. I'd prob go w/something like this:

That Japanese maple does look very happy with its current location, and they are nice trees. As illustrated in Beth H’s renderings, you could likely make it work with a broader landscaping plan (but I would add a few more trees for it to play off of further out in your yard that still work to frame that central portion of the house from the curb). Maybe start by talking to an arborist about thinking the Japanese maple as a whole and pruning some of its lower branches to open up to give it an airier feel that opens up some views to the dormers.

Replace the stone on the garage with clapboard lower and vertical siding boards for the peak. Add a fascia board or lattice all the way across at gutter level.
