Hi! I'm not the best propagator at all. I have very little luck with it.

I need to take some runner babies off my Greenstalk strawberries and get them rooted into either water or potting mix.

Maybe Larry will come along and offer advice. He does well with this.

I don't have a lot to add, but on blackberries I would just root prune and let them make plants where they were. I would water around the mother plant, and then just shove a shovel into the soil out about a foot from the plant, most often a new plant would grow, then in the fall, winter or spring I would just dig the new plant up and plant it where I wanted it. On basil I just plant seeds. I am trying to dead head all my basil now because I don't want a million plants coming up, but I know that I will have plenty. The plants I have now I started from seeds. The only coleus I have grown, I just bought plants in the spring, but I quit growing them because they produces too many seeds. The hibiscus that I liked well enough to try to get new plants from was a very large flowered plant, I think the name was Southern Belle, I would just cut off root section in the spring, by using a shovel, and replanting them. I would wait till a shoot was coming up so that I knew where to place the shovel to make sure I got a shoot, and some root to go with it.

I really see nothing wrong with the set up that chrholme has, I just don't normally go to that much trouble.

Jennifer, when I grew strawberries, I would just run the tiller over the old plants, by then the new runners were rooted. I tried to keep plants no more than 3 years old. Another thing that I did that seemed to help a little, was to plant okra to shade the plants. I could get double use of the space that way. I have never grown much of anything in containers. Jennifer, have you tried air layering? I tried air layering one time on a tropical plant that had grown up to a 10' ceiling, and I air layered it to about 3 or 4 feet. I would think that you could buy strawberry plant easier than going to a lot of work by air layering.

I would like to be more help, but y'all are already over my head.
