Hey Marie, I cant imagine planting an Astilbe in full sun. At some point in the past 10 years I gave away my last Astilbe as it was too hit and miss re rainfall and once the leaves get crinkly, that's it. (With all the rain we have had in 2024 this season is made for astilbes)

I don't have experience with that particular astilbe, but I also have never planted an astilbe in full sun. I don't actually grow them in my garden as they don't do well - guess it's too dry. I had a customer once though who had a swamp and I planted a garden back there and astilbes were stars in that garden! I suppose if you have time to water them you can get them to survive, but I don't have time unfortunately to play in the garden that much. Plus I am trying to be more water-wise and plant stuff that can manage on its own lol.

More northern latitudes might be able to get away with more sun, but I'd always err on the side of more shade. After losing astilbes 3 years in a row, I'm on my last try. I'm trying absolutely no direct sunlight on this go around. I wish plant tags would include heat tolerance and not just cold - that's been far more of a problem for me than cold loss here in the deep south.

I can't grow Astilbe at all. My garden is too dry for them. I do love them and I have tried them multiple times. I broke down and bought another one 2 years ago. 'Peach Blossom' which was a favorite, I thought it had disappeared but it came up this spring, barely and after all the heat for thepast 10 days, that has to be a goner.

I went back and read the original tag and a little on line. The tag definitely says it is an astilbe for sun. i did not parse that statement at time of purchase, but it has short comings.

we might wonder ”full sun”, ”part sun”? North; south? All that you said. Other growers were clear it did best in partial sun but might tolerate more in colder climates. i liked the crinkly dark leaves with sun tolerance. now i dont like it so much.
