I'm not taking a side on this, but I can give you some facts based upon experience at a relative's house:

- Yes, it feels wonderful underfoot, but you will not feel it when you stand on a mat. Also, if you are in the habit of wearing bedroom slippers, you will not feel it. If your bathroom is long, you may have a couple tile steps between the vanity and the tub mats.

- The floor heating does add heat to the room. We're talking about a slight but noticeable difference.

- The tile takes about 20 minutes to heat up. It's on a dial, so you can opt for a touch of heat or more warmth for winter. I've thought to myself, if I had this, I'd want a switch by my bed so I could turn it on before I get up -- don't actually know if that's a possibility -- or a timer.

- My relative has this in a large kitchen /dining area -- definitely over 200 square feet. She says it does raise the electrical bill, but hers is such a large area.

- If you intend to be old in this house, consider that someday you may have to do away with throw rugs (trip hazard).

An alternate thought: Tile is cold. Laminate is softer, easier on the knees and naturally warmer underfoot.

I put heated flooring in the primary and the downstairs guest bathroom. Even though I live in a warm climate (SoCal), it is wonderful during the colder months. If your floors are slippery when wet, you will still need a mat near the shower/ bath entrance.

Words of caution:

1. A separate electrical circuit is needed for the heated flooring
2. Heated bathroom floors are incompatible with kitty litter boxes -- enhances the "aroma."

I am a bath mat and slippers person, so it would not benefit me. I would look at the cost first, sounds pricey for the few possible moments of bare feet on the floor.
