What colors are in the chair?

With that bold of chair I think that you should use a solid color rug. Go to a carpet store and find carpet in a color that flatters both the couch and the bold chair. Have them bind it in a contrasting color.

I feel you should lean more into the pink tones from the chair for your rug and pillows. The photo I’ve included shows a good example of a navy and pink theme. Also note that the curtains have a leading edge trim that brings just a bit of the pink hues there too.

A chair such as this is a very committed starting point. It isn't too updated in styling, it's a bold floral that could easily cause a room to read "old lady". The couch ( a bit meh!) and the rug are doing it no favor, sorry! The date of the house is less important than making the chair look intentional. and the room less happenstance.

To me the chair just looks like an after thought and since the rockers are going how about a new home for that chair and then choose rug with a nice new choir in a much more subltle fabric You need lamps for sure and a coffee table and IMO the yellow is off and the piloows too big. Do not let the elepahnt in the room drive the bus/ The chair is actually in a weird place too. Maybe post at least 2 more pics so we see the whole room . Just post the pics here in a comment .BTW no table settings unless ready to eat.

Highly suggest returning the rug, as I see a real disconnect not only with rug/chair, but really in the two rooms. Looking at the big picture is the best place to begin. Have a plan.

Suggest a neutral, textured rug in a shade that works with your couch, which will provide a blank canvas from which to build on.

Now focus on incorporating chair with both color and accessories. Suggest new cushions on couch and potentially new chairs.

Suggest framed prints above couch and a coffee table would ground the room/add interest. Recommend neutral chairs and drapery and paint last (both rooms the same color).

I meant the pillow/chair fabric up close looks far different than chair fabric as her pic!!!

The rug and the chair are just fighting with each other. Both have lots of color and pattern. So, might suggest you replace the rug with something with less pattern and more muted colors. Either that or keep the rug and find yourself another chair that will coordinate better with the rug. Good luck!

Get a sisal, jute or seagrass rug. They are inexpensive, neutral but with texture. Will tone down the formality of the room.

Can the chair stay but go to another room? It would look good in a master bedroom or a cozy nook.

If you are unwilling or unable to go bold with the rest of the space it's always going to be the bossy peacock in a room filled with swans.

Sorry but the rug you have doesn't work at all with anything in your living room. Below I show a vintage rug from Wayfair (really not expensive) where you'll see the colours are more subdued but coordinate with your printed chair.
