it wouldn't be an issue for me, but everyone has their own ideas.

The real question is where is your cooktop/range in that arrangement? If you have a sink & cooktop/range on the same wall or around the corner from each other, then the trash should go b/w the sink and range/cooktop and the DW should go on the other side of the sink.

If possible, you should keep the DW out of the Prep Zone. (The Prep Zone is the workspace b/w the sink and cooktop/range.) This gives you a nice separation of work zones and so the DW isn't in the way of someone prepping or cooking. It also puts the trash in the zones where the most trash & recyclables are created -- the Prep & Cooking Zones.

Where do you plan to prep? If it's on the countertop above the dishwasher/trash, I don't see it as a problem.

Thanks for your comments! The cooktop/range is around the corner. We have a second trash in the island, across from the range. In the island we also have a smaller prep sink, where I think I'll do most of the prep....the other sink (the sink in question) is more for dishes.

The most useful location for the trash is IN the Prep Zone but near the Cooking Zone.

A successful Prep Zone has three KEY elements:

• Direct access to water (sink)
• Sufficient work/counterspace next to the sink
• Next to or directly across from the Cooking Zone without crossing through other zones (including the Cleanup Zone where the DW is).

I have my trash under my sinks that are back to back in my island one is next to my DW I see not big deal in small trash cans on pullouts under sink since IMO trash goes out every day. My pullout has 2 bins one for compost one for trash . The recyling goes into a bin in the main floor laundry since not usually created near my sinks. As for the layout for you what seems to make sense for how you use all of those things .
