First Minnesota Vikings quilt AND THE SECOND

last modified: 2 years ago

Here is the first of two Vikings/fishing quilts that I made for our grandsons. They are huge Vikings fans (even though they live in Denver), and avid fishermen. The backing is minky. It finished at 66"x87", big enough to use as a spread on their twin beds. The second top is finiished. I just have to quilt and bind it. I'm trying to finish them in time for the start of the football season.

Good for you, Lois!! It is really nice (even though I am a Denver Broncos fan living in Colorado!!!). I like the simplicity of the fabric design and your quilting is beautiful.

Even though it may have been a chore, you did a great job.

Haha, Sue. The Broncos are their second choice Their dad, who was raised in Minnesota, must have been the influence that favored the Vikes. Thank you both.

How much of this was the dreaded t-shirt ? I was expecting that ‘many t shirts had been harmed in the making of this quilt’.

    good choice on the minky!

Funny, Theresa. The only part that was the t-shirt was the large Viking logo in the upper right of the quilt. The print is an NFL-authorized fabric.

I'm so blooming happy to be done with these two. I think I'll send them to the boys soon, before the start of the football pre-season games. I suppose August will be a little too warm in Denver to cuddle up with them, but I think they will enjoy them anyway.

Just took the quilts to UPS and sent them on their way - $117 for three day delivery. Less handling and fewer stops than the $60 ground. It is always so hard to leave them in hands other than those of the intended recipient. Fingers crossed.

The boys love their quilts. I hadn’t put their names on them because the fish pictures were different, and I knew there might be a conflict there. Dad said they worked it out between themselves. They started school this week already, 5th and 7th grade. Time really flies the older you get.

They look great. I'm sure the boys will cherish them. It always surprises me when kids get so excited about a quilt, but makes me happy!

My stepson is 32 and he was so excited about the hunting/fishing quilt I made him last year. He absolutely loves it, especially the minky backing. He says he sleeps with it every night. I don't even want to think about the last time it might have been laundered.
