I would definitely continue with the same flooring throughout the house. Install some lighting in your room, I don't see one table lamp, nor do I see a floor lamp or any ceiling lights (chandelier, tracklight, pot lights, etc.).

Are you planning to use a rug or rugs in the area?

You can always lighten things up with a rug.

Lighter will be tough as this is a prefinished floor and you will never get all the darker stain out of the microbevels when sanding for the refinish.

Thank you for the idea about lightening things up with an area rug — definitely something to consider. We currently have a large sisal area rug.

I feel like consistent flooring helps a home feel larger as the space does not feel "interrupted" (FWIW our first home was an old bungalow with a tiled kitchen floor, we replaced the kitchen tile with hardwood to match the rest of the house... the next month, the realtor who sold us the house stopped by and kept asking about when we had added on to the home, bc house looked/felt SO much bigger)

I'd go with a lighter stain to be done throughout all the flooring in the house. That's the best outcome overall. With a matte water poly from Bona or Ciranova. I would not use Minwax.
