Contract extra charges?

I received bids to install luxury vinyl planks in all of the main floor of my home along with a hall bathroom, master bath, and laundry room upstairs. 20 different contractors measured 20 different numbers, but the lowest was 1000sqft and the highest was 1200 sqft. I hired a contractor who came to my home and looked at the work that needed to be done including the installation of 1100 sqft of luxury vinyl planks. I signed a contract stating the work agreed upon. I had purchased all the material from another store. Work went on for several weeks and the contractor had to get another 3 boxes of material.

Now the contractor is charging me extra $600 labor for the 3 extra boxes? I paid for the material, so why would the contractor charge me extra labor on those boxes? My house is still the same size of 1073 just because he wasted more material than necessary, why am I being charged extra for labor?

This contractor went to pickup extra molding and 2 pieces fell out of his truck, instead of pulling over to retrieve the lost material he drove off needing me to purchase more, which he is charging me. He also cut the stairnose wrong and I had to order another piece which he is charging me.

Are these legitimate extra charges? Please help me understand his reasoning.

Yes. Pay the man. You took all the profit out of the job and had him do multiple trips. And probably refused to pay for flattening the floor too. Pay up.

Not sure why 600.00 extra for 3 boxes, but you should pay something for it. You need to ask him why the labor is so high for 3 boxes.

You need to ask him why he is charging you for the molding work and the stairnose.

I had a similar issue with a contractor once. They ended up charging me extra labor for additional materials even though I had already bought everything. They also messed up a few cuts and lost some materials, but still wanted me to pay for those mistakes. It felt like they were trying to make up for their own errors by hitting me with unexpected costs. I’d suggest checking your contract and having a chat with the contractor about these extra charges. If that doesn’t work, you might want to get some advice from a local consumer rights group.

Most came to my home so that I could talk with them and go over the necessary improvements as well as how they were going to complete the projects. A few just wanted pictures, but I wasn't comfortable with those bids. I selected the bids from the middle that had good reviews and seemed to know what they were talking about without any BS.
