Need Advice ASAP 36" or 42" vent hood?

BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front) Would it be ok to use a 34" vent with a 36" hood for a 36" induction cooktop? Any advice or opinions would be appreciated and very helpful.

Cabinets are to be installed mid-September and we changed plans at the 11th hour. Originally had a KitchenAid 30" freestanding electric stove so we bought a 34" Z-Line vent insert with remote blower with a 36" wood hood. Then this past weekend we decided to do a Monogram 36" induction cooktop with a Cafe French door wall oven. The vent cost $1,100 and the hood cost $1,800.

The original 36" wood hood that was purchased on a website arrived with the strapping misaligned, so the company is willing to send a replacement. I emailed them 2 days ago and they responded this morning that since they were are already going to ship a replacement 36" hood, they can just as easily ship a 42" hood instead at no additional cost.

But it will cost us an additional $1,200 to purchase the 40" vent with remote blower.

I know the right answer is to have the vent at least 2-3 inches of overhang on each side of cooktop, but money is getting tight now and we were not planning on an additional $1,200.
