Exterior Refresh

I am looking for some advice on refreshing the façade of my house. The front is brick with sage, green shutters and front door. There is cream colored vinyl siding on the sides and back of the house as well. I am wondering about a darker, smokier green for the shutters

and front door. I am open to painting the brick as well. Thanks for any suggestions.

Lovely house! I would NOT paint the pretty brick. I agree with your thinking about a darker, smokier gray/green. It’s also a good choice with your roof color. Lots of great choices, such as maybe Retreat, Dried Thyme or Rosemary in these examples. Keep in mind colors can look lighter on the exterior, so testing is a must.

ETA - Using the green for everything, including where you have cream now, could be an option.

Love this green palette. I love Retreat or Pewter Green. Sherwin Williams also has an Urban Bronze I was thinking of testing. Thanks so much for your advice.

We just used Behr stucco, masonry, and mortar paint to give our brick a whitewashed/ lime treatment. I’m very happy with it.

To Claudianne’s point, white washing can look really nice. I've seen it be quite an improvement with some brick. I’m just a fan of nice brick which you have. It’s definitely a matter of personal choice.

If you’re thinking of white washing the brick you’d need to strike a balance with the siding. I would leave the brick as is. It’s quite charming.

Some of the shrubs need some significant pruning

I might consider painting the entrance in the sage green color along with the garage door.

I would not paint the brick, but I might consider creating a vintage appearance by limewashing some of the brick.

IMO painting brick with anything instantly devalues your home . I think adarker sgae green for the shutters and garage door would be great . I love this house always and also think maybe do the trim the same color as it shows . Agree a haircut for some of the shrubs too and maybe check out foundation plantings for the landscaping it usually adds color and interest all year.

I am all for painting ugly brick but yours is really nice I think - love the suggested sage colors - it looks like there used to be sidelights by the door? Would be pretty to bring those back -

larger and more substantial outdoor lighting would also add some oomph

Beautiful home and a darker green would be great!

Step #2 involves a chain saw.

I like simplynatural's idea of a grayed blue, and also painting the cream siding and garage doors a color that blends in with the brick, instead of sticking out. I would also like the whole surround around that door painted the grayed blue color, rather than just the door itself.

Check out BM Gray 2121-10 for the shutters, to lean into your roof a bit more. For contrast, SQ Grizzle Gray is pretty and quite subtle.

Just looked at the two grays from Kylie. To my eye they both lean warm and could work nicely with the brick and roof, as well as a deeper gray/green.
