I just posted on your other thread. the teak works with everything in your space except the grey couch. Id rather get a new couch vs painting that . it woukd be quite a job to paint nicely with all the recesses etc..

My vote is leave as is. The teak appears to tie in with your floors. Plus the sun is shining on it in the picture so maybe looks different than it really is.

Please, just have one post going. Who knows what other advice you have received? Why are you pasting comments? I have no idea what all those photos above are supposed to represent. And, who told you to go with gray. And who says gray is out? Can you imagine all the hundreds of gorgeous grays with different undertones no one will use because "someone said".

No please don't paint it. I agree it adds warmth to the space and relates to the wood floors. Your room is beautiful as it is! You obviously have a great sense of style! Your gray sectional is beautiful, too! Enjoy :-)

It’s your space and can do what you like but the teak wall is beautiful and works well with your flooring.

The whole reason we stopped having beautiful wood accents and trim in our homes is because builders got cheap and used paint grade wood everywhere they could get away with it. Why would you take something that is rich and beautiful and make it look like cheap paint grade wood that needed a coat of paint?

Don’t paint the wall. I’m sure there’s 1 million other solutions. Yes Wood is trending but it also would be a travesty to paint some thing that lovely.

I am wondering if the person who told you does not realize this is wood. They called it "tile".

We don't paint the exposed wood on upholstered furniture to match the fabric. Why would you paint this to match the sofa, then?

Another strong no to painting the teak wall. I would, however, remove all the decorative items from the shelf above it. No need to draw the eye up to the corner of the room.

That teak wall is a unique feature in your home -- it elevates the room and makes your home look custom and expensive. Please reconsider painting it.

When I recommended gray I didn't mean like this.

I guess you could do a dark brown STAIN on the strips like you see below.

When I said gray, I meant more like a dark charcoal color. Maybe the wood could be enhanced like you see below.

Or perhaps the teak wall would look good with a coat of Briwax in Ebony

Yes, can’t wait to share what happens. I’ve had overwhelming support of not painting. People love the teak! I will try to hire someone to stain it to remove some of the orange tinge. I’ve tested some stain behind the tv so see how it would look. I liked it. It’s subtle, but more brown and less orange.

It's of course your decision, but I still like the original teak better. Much more interesting wood, imo.

Don’t mind the lady at the store. Dark gray can work great when used as an accent, it’s more the ‘gray cabinets, light gray walls, gray tiles’ that’s not trendy. PLUS, you need to do what’s suits your home and its finishes AND your personal tastes!

I agree that BM Gray 2121-10 could work great as it should connect well with your sectional. If you go brown it will clash!

Since when does the sectional have to match the feature wall? I think there’s other ways to get a coherent look in the room without having to redo wall. The thing I would pay attention to with the stain is the amount of sheen. It looks like the teak is unfinished and so is very matte. The stain looks like it’s reflecting quite a bit of light. I also prefer the look of the original wood… but if you feel like you must darken it I would look for a method that doesn’t create a lot of shine. Again I would consult a professional woodworker. I’m guessing that tinted wax would be a good option. There’s also Howard’s products. More subtle. Comes in different darker tones like Mahogany and Walnut.

I think the teak as is works. I see that it is warm and the rest cool but with the floor you have a second large hit of warm and it works as is. It's a BEAUTIFUL statement and I would focus efforts elsewhere.

Oooooohhhh I love the teak as is. It is pretty. I like the idea of oiling it and I would embrace the orange tinge. It will be stunning with a few other pieces to balance this warm color. Maybe update your rug with a few more tones to match the teak.

Teak is a very naturally oily wood which is why it is used on boats as it is very rot resistant and super hard. Being very oily it also does not take paint well at all.

The other thing is that as hues, orange and gray--while not actual complements, because greyscale isn't on the colorwheel--orange and grey do complement each other.

And gray upholstery was often combined with teak in the midcentury period, like this Finn Juhl settee. I am not sure why the objection of "warm and cool" together. Of course you can combine warm and cool

I love the teak wall au naturale and also like your darker stained sample which still lets some of the wood's lovely variation show through. I think painting the teak with any color paint will look very one note and out of context for what it is. I think it nicely repeats the tones of your floors and I wouldn't feel compelled to match your couch to the wall at all. I'd only add a teak tray to your coffee table to continue that tone through the space just like you did with the teal decor and your teal chair. Your seating area looks very cozy and comfortable.

Do you like the wall? I do, but it's not my house. I agree with the advice to spread a few teak or teak-colored objects (eg., sofa pillows) around your room.

It will help the wall relate to the rest of the space. You can buy a few returnable items to try in the room. If they don't make the wall look more appealing to you, then consider more permanent options like staining or painting.

Generally teak is oiled, not painted or stained. Why don't you try a gray teak oil: gray teak oil

That teak wall is the best thing in the room. Pairs wonderfully with the floor. Imbues the room with warmth and life.

I predict that if you gray-ify the wall, the next target is going to be the floor.
