Engineered Hardwood on Stairs

Hello,

We replaced the floors in our house with engineered hardwood including staircase. To finish the staircase look we need to put drywall and paint. The question is what to do with risers, on the edge of each riser it’s unfinished wood (because we used engineered hardwood). Do we need to put nosing or we can leave it as is? If we leave it as is, would it give an unfinished look? Please advise! Thank you!

Should have mitered a return on the risers to hide the plywood edge.

G&S for the win AGAIN!

Since this is already done, an alternative might be to cut or plane some pieces of the finished wood, leaving a thin finished piece, rip the width to match the thickness of your flooring and glue it over the exposed plywood like edge banding on furniture.

That's not an easy mitered return, but I suggest it from time to time. But the one shown below is 3/4" thickness material. I can imagine thinner material breaking into pieces.
