We had a mix of oak hardwood, a lot of builder-grade tile with dark grout (yuck) and some espresso stained wood when we bought our very old home. The tile was quickly replaced with oak hardwood in the main living areas (except kitchen and guest bath which are neutral tile). An L-shaped hallway and two guest bedrooms behind a pocket door still have the stained espresso wood flooring and it needs to be replaced. The pocket door separates the hallway (espresso) from the living room (oak), and other existing transitions from the espresso include the guest bath (neutral beige tile) and master bedroom & its vestibule (oak). Do I need to match the oak flooring for the hallway and/or guest bedrooms or transition to a different wood or use tile? It just seems like a lot of oak. I'm leaning toward oak for the hallway and hoping we can get a close match or refinish the existing adjacent floors. Not generally fond of tile in bedrooms but they are currently being used as a dressing room and a home office. I haven't had carpeting in a home for many years as we always have pets.
