I hear ya Paula….. I have much to do as I look forward to fall. That may be a 4 letter word if I say it to my golfer husband. 😂 I’m worrying much about my ceramic pots and hot to best overwinter the hostas in them. I imagine I will need to transplant them into plastic pots and decide where to put the ones I don’t actually plant. Also thinking of moving Liberty. It’s so fried by this time of summer, don’t like how it looks…..
I was slug hunting Saturday night and sat on the lannon stone wall to work on a couple in that area…..Sunday morning I woke with the worst pain in my left gluteal muscles. I guess I really bruised that area. Well, that’s what I get for not getting up and getting my cushion which was only a few feet away…. 🙄

Old_dirt, we were commenting at the same time……your pet peeve is my pet peeve. I am having to dig out hostas that are absolutely ensnarled in tree roots….maple and arborvitae. I want to remove the arborvitae from the front and put something else out there….. something more hosta root friendly. Not sure what that could be…..a couple of hydrangeas perhaps as the area is mostly shade.
Your temporary pot bed IS full! Will all of those get planted there? The rest of your yard looks really pretty!

Squirrels are simply messy and problem causers! I used to like the brownish red ones we had in my area. Then the gray and deep brown squirrels took over. They are constantly digging in pots, jumping on plants in pots, and throwing plants out of my pots. And seriously annoy my dog. I finally found a way to keep them from my birdfeeders (a raccoon baffle). I will have tons of acorns in the fall. The squirrels will naturally try to dig up what's left in the pots to bury them. I simply can't win! Old Dirt, your holding area is much nicer than my beds!

Miles, acorn and squirrels brought back a childhood memory. When I was six and my sister was three our job was to pull the oak tree seedlings out of the lawn. It looked like a mini tree farm. We had huge oak trees in the yard and tons of squirrels….property backed a forest. l also remember my mom shooting those squirrels through our kitchen window 😳

Wish I could employ an industrious 6 year old! I even have a garden tool to roll on the ground, it has a long handle and it picks up acorns! I guess I would be investigated for child labor!

Mid August and this bed is looking pretty good. Hoping for some rain today as some things are getting stressed.

Ann, love the bird pictures…. almost missed the woodpecker until I enlarged the photo. Wish I could get a hummer in my yard…… probably for the best as the cats might show some interest….. sigh.

IGG, that bed looks really good I must say.

My bed that looks the best is on the north side of my neighbors house. It gets morning sun but mostly shade the rest of the day.

Both Debra and Babka are right it is a fascinated lime twizzler. About this time, I start cutting the coleus back, but I think I will over winter this one. I leave a few going in the winter as when they look weak, I know it is time to water. Poor coleus I use them as bug collectors and water indicators.

I just spent most of the week at my old company. For having a great Safety record, they were rewarded with a Plant wide BBQ, that mean 4 shifts plus days. I always worked the BBQs so I was invited back. I feel like someone beat me up but it was so much fun. Great to see my co-workers again.

That is a great Pileated Woodpecker, but it is time to feed the ducks, and they own watches. I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Miles, I forgot to mention….. when squirrels are digging around the hostas (usually the new ones) I surround them with small pieces of lannon stones that I have an abundance of in my yard. They may dig elsewhere but leave the news alone. Ann, calls the my “squirrel rocks.” 👍🏽
