Kodiak Fresh & Black Diervillas

I have these in about 5 hours sun....Kodiak Fresh out front & Kodiak Blacks at the side of house..




Planted them June of 2022

    Nice! They grew quite well for you. I haven't heard of Fresh, but the color is nice.


    I planted some in a problem area - part shade, hot full sun in the afternoon along the hot asphalt street, poor dry rocky soil. I have them in a slightly raised bed - maybe a foot above ground level, over rock ledge.


    The one I planted in 2022 grew very quickly. I planted it for some privacy and it does the job. I don't dislike it, but sometimes I think it's a bit weedy looking. But the color especially in spring is nice, it attracts pollinators, grows great with neglect and does well in it's difficult spot, and so I am happy with it. I believe that one is a Kodiak Orange.


    Planted a second one - IIRC a Kodiak Red - at the other end of this bed last year. It has been slower to establish but it has more shade and gets less rainfall from the tree canopy but I think next year it will catch up.


    I never even heard of these until about two years ago, and I am glad I finally did!
