Leave the floor and change the entire wall to something complimentary. I would not try and put a different tile on the wall above the current, too much new tile to not look cheap. Just my .02.

And while,you’re at it, painting the white shoe molding around the floor tile to match the tile will be an improvement.

I honestly never thought about changing it all! I find it’s a very harsh looking corner with the deep colours. I plan on repainting the entire home. And yes Susan you are so right! I will be painting that, quite the eye sore right now.

I would pick a solid color ceramic tile. Get a size you like in a rectangluar tile fairly muted in color as you want to to sort of blend not really be a focal point.

Porcelain or ceramic would be ideal. A subdued slate look could work well.

Paint the shoe moulding and replace the wall tiles. Depending on the style you plan for this room and paint colour, you have a lot of options. Give more info, get more suggestions...

Installing tile to a combstible wall does not make that wall noncombustible, at least according to the NFPA. I'd build a big fire all night and feel the wall.

We have to install a non-combustible fire board before we install any type of tile onto it first.
