It's an unfortunate normal and have no clue why yours rotted. I picked 110 lbs of Roma and Celebrity over a week ago from near ripe to barely a blush and pile them in bread racks. Roma's piled two layers high and Celebrities packed one layer tight and I had no problem getting them ripe for juice just sitting in my garage. Made 30 quarts of juice on Tuesday with about 10 lbs too ripe to use.

I have another good flush of tomatoes to pick tomorrow.and hope to get at least another 20 quarts, I like my juice and have been picking anything with a blush to ripen indoors for years with no problems so can't think of a reason yours did.

I often pick tomatoes when they start to show a blush and ripen inside. I have a rotten time with slugs and snails. I do not have a problem ripening them indoor. There must be damage (disease, cracking, bruises, critter damage) that already existed for you to have that happening, Catherinet.
