Island Lighting - 2 or 3 pendants

We have an 80 x 36 inch island. The pendant lights we have chosen are 9.5” wide. Do you recommend using 2 pendants or 3 pendants? They will be on a dimmer switch and be used for both ambient light and brighter lighting when needed on the island. Thank you ~
