I'd make sure it's a warm white, as your brick is warm. I might do dark brown (black adjacent) shutters.

I rather go with off-white to pop up white trim

A warm white, soft black, and landscaping...

We are getting ready to paint and my husband was wondering what it would like with the brick painted white as well. Could you all please work your magic again and show the brick white too so we can make a final decision?

The sketch is not perfect, white of the brick should be the same white as the siding only different in texture but it gives an idea...

Keep in mind that your brick currently is low/no maintenance. Sometimes needs a washing. But if you paint your brick, you can never return it to it's original state. And you will need to keep painting it and maintaining it, just like any other painted exterior cladding.

Painted brick is a personal prefrence. A lot of love and hate for it. Be aware that it could impact the future sales of the house.

No to white brick - the natural earthtone material offsets the stark black and white, the visual weight of it "grounds" the house in every sense of the word. Not to mention the white will look white all of two seconds, until a pouring rain hits and splashes dirt and crud up from the ground. Why not try it without and see what you think.

Yes to painting the brick. I am not against brick houses, but this strip of brick along the bottom half doesn’t look good at all. Lisedv’s mock-up above looks much better. When painting brick questions are posted, there are always those who strongly oppose painting brick because of the maintenance. We have lived in a white painted brick and clapboard house for many years. If a good masonry primer and good quality paint are used, painted brick holds up just fine. For your house, painting the brick strip will look MUCH better and will last just as long as the clapboard paint job!

And the comment on dirt splash up - having lived in a painted white brick house, I have never experienced that problem!

I also say no to painting the brick white. Your house needs the contrast of the brick.

If its really that detestable, and esp. if its that goofy thing they did back in the day of having brick only on the lower front of house (as if you dont ever see the sides of the house) why not consider just removing and residing it, and use the bricks for garden or walkway., Its likely just a veneer of brick and not integral to structure of the house (but do check and verify before proceeding LOL) Me, I really do advise from the perspective of what I think looks the most classy and in sync with original design and in this case Im not a fan of white painted brick on a ranch house but its certainly not a hill Im gonna die on. Have at it! Now if this was a quality solid brick ranch or 20s bungalow then yeah we'd have to report you to the brick police LOL.
