I reckon fortunei. The variegated one is identical to one I have climbing the garden wall. If your neighbour is patient they are easy to grow from cuttings. That's how I got mine.

me too...but they get a lot bigger than 2 feet and will climb against a wall. Euonymous japonicus microphylla aureovariegatus is much slower growing - mine is over 25 years old and still only 4 foot tall. A very mannerly shrub.

I guess I'm in the minority. Those look like E. japonicus to me, based on leaf shape. Japonicus is more upright and can get eventually 3 to 4 meters tall (or more). Fortunei is more spreading, and low-lying branches readily re-root in the soil.

Compare with my fortunii. The one climbing a wall.

It looks like Euonymus japonicus to me too. And the yellow and green on of OP's looks like Euonymus japonicus aureo-marginatus.

To me the variegated one looks like E. japonicus ’Chollipo’ or ’Silver King’.

Sooo, I thought I just report back, I had to order several shrubs for our alottment gardeners (substitute after road re-building)

so I sent the pics from above and 3 more to the nursery. They IDed them without questionmark as E japonicus.

I guess it makes sense with the rather robust twiggs, thanks anyway,

well, I try to brush up my shrub knowlegde, am mostly a perennial person
