Countertop install

last year

Hello,

I am seeking advice. I have a new build that is at the point of countertop installation. The material is quartzite. We went with a company my contractor recommended, they do cabinet production/install and material fabrication/install. I worked with one of their designers on staff. I did not sign off on any template plan, all I kept hearing is that we had enough material to do what we wanted.

My questions are about the quality of install. My pictures show one seam that is in front of/behind the sink. This seam is dark, catches the eye. Is this something that can be fixed?

Another question is about the installers adding a 3” slab of counter to make the correct length of counter. This area is to the right of our rangetop. I never heard anything about this which makes me believe it was an install error.

Does anyone have advice on what can be done here? We have a meeting scheduled with our contractor and the owner of the fabrication company. Would like to know if refusing to pay for this until it is rectified is appropriate. Thank you very much in advance.

I will let the professionals comment on the seams. But that last picture with the added 3 inches is a hard no for me. Defintiely looks like a mistake or like they ran out of material. Either way, I would not find that acceptable.

Also, I know you didn't ask about this - but in the last picture, are those holes in the cabinets for knobs? If so it surprises me that those two cabinets don't open from the center. Not both going the same way.

Hard no for the added on strip. Definitely a fabricator error. What happened to them telling you you had enough material? Obviously they didn't.

The edges of the sink seam look a bit jagged. They probably weren't using fresh/sharp blades. They should be able to clean that up a bit.

Some of the fabricators that help out on Houzz will hopefully give you some of the correct wording to use with the fabricator and builder to get them to make some improvements.

Like the above post, the 3" added strip is bad. It doesn't even look like the same color so it looks like they ran out and used another slab from a different lot. Hoping a fabricator or other pro chimes in, because it also looks like the discoloration along the seam could be from adhesive, but not sure.

Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate it!

OC Kitchen, those are holes for knobs. The cabinets are individual and do not open as one big cabinet. The orientation of door was recommended to open towards the range top (hope I described that accurately).

The seam looks contaminated to me; like someone rubbed a dirty fingertip over it. See if they can poultice it out and pretty it up some.

    The add-on is a no-go and a do-over. Nonnegotiable.

Thank you @Joseph Corlett for the information. The switching 6 for 9 makes sense and might be the exact reason we are in this predicament. I already have an undermount Elkay quartz sink delivered, but I will keep the apron front sink option in mind if they can't get the seam line to lighten. Thanks so much!
