We've Adopted Another Rescue Fur Kid!!!

last modified: 8 months ago

Meet our newest fur kid, Logan!

Logan is a rescued Doberman with the kindest eyes and most affectionate, gentle disposition . . . but with the saddest history! The vet estimates him at being a few months shy of just 2 years old. We formally adopted him this past Monday afternoon and so he's still getting used to house living and us.

A Quick Recap: he was found about 34 days ago, tied to a tree by a rope close but not on a horseback trail in some thickly wooded area about 90 miles south of here. No food, no water, no protection from the elements. They think that he was probably tied up there for almost a week. When rescuers found him, he was too weak to even walk at all, and weighed a mere 34 POUNDS!!! He weighs 80 pounds now in these "after" pics. That alone makes me so incredibly angry at the ugliness done to him! He also had a badly infected right eye, several healing bite marks, and 4-5 large oozing sores that are in the process of healing still.

Before we adopted him, he'd been living with a Doberman rescue group facility for about 30 days, getting meds, a high protein kibble, etc. to help him recuperate, and for them to search for an owner. No chips, tags and no luck, so after 30 days , he was our sweet boy to adopt.

Anyhow, he's OUR fur kid now, and for the rest of his life he'll get all the love, comfort, kisses, safety, good food, hugs, walks, toys, vet care, several new beds (already) to relax in, and a home here with us to live in . . . not to mention a wonderful little brother, our Teddy (also a rescue, almost 4 months ago now).

And his new little brother, Teddy:

Congratulations! After I moved out, my mom and stepfather got a Doberman, and when I first saw her I was petrified. She lived a long life and was the sweetest dog I'd ever been around and she also learned human phrases, so easy to train. Her name was Chula, which in Spanish (step dad was Spanish) the name means, "Chula is a term used to describe someone as "cute" or "beautiful". It can also be used as a nickname or term of endearment. " Aww.

It saddens me to think a human could be so cruel to an innocent animal. Logan and Teddy are so lucky to have you and DH to love and care for them. Many special moments ahead for all of you!

Logan hit the jackpot after living miserable first years. I despise people who would do that to an animal. Sometimes I like animals more than people.

So happy for you and your rescue doggies! I hope the two are best of friends! How are they getting along?

The cruelty we are seeing in my area (NE Ohio) is just unreal! I have some of the local rescues newsfeed coming on my FB page and the things that I see are horrible! I don't understand how someone could be so horrible?! The rescues are just overwhelmed with unwanted and mistreated dogs and cat and even other small animals!

A lady at our dog park just rescued an adorable puppy from a rescue that took in two litters of lab/golden mixes. These breeders were getting huge money for these puppies but now apparently they cannot even give them away. She was telling me that if these litters cannot find rescue then the breeders are just having them all euthanized! So horrible! The puppy that she rescued was absolutely the most adorable little girl you'd ever seen! So smart and friendly and well behaved! So if anyone is looking for a puppy, contact some local rescues and see if they have any litters!

i don't have words i can put in print to describe what i think should happen to whoever abused this dog. thank God he was finally found and that he landed with you!!

he looks like at some point in his young life, he was loved and cared for. he has a lovely crop that someone took time to make sure his ears would stand properly. i just don't understand how a dog goes from being loved to being so abused.

his life going forward will now be perfect and i'm sure teddy and he will bond very shortly. congrats!!! you have a huge heart and that is SO nice to see! 💖

How can people be so cruel? They lack the gene for empathy. This sweet dog went thru hell and now has a loving forever home and hopefully he'll soon forget the horrible cretins who did this to him.

It was hard to read your story and see the image in my mind. I’ve got a question: If they had found a chip on him with owner info, would that person have been charged?

I’m thrilled for your boy that you found each other. May he live a long and very happy life!

I’m glad Logan has a loving family. Animal cruelty is a huge problem and needs to be a crime with legal consequences.

That dog is lucky you found him and will give him a safe, loving home,

Animal cruelty is too prevalent anymore and should be prosecuted to the max. I rescued a ginger cat who was there because of a domestic abuse and cruelty case. She was never reclaimed and spent months in the shelter. It was only after I rescued a young male in April did she ever come out of her shell. She never entered our big family room connected to the kitchen in five years. Who knew it would take a young cat to do this but the change is crazy. She's now super affectionate and doesn't bite anymore and is so much calmer. I'm sure she was abused by the male as he abused the woman. All you can do when you get a pet like this is make sure the rest of their life is a good one.

A Doberman! The very best dogs. I wonder where he came from to start. His ears and tail seem professionally cropped. Honestly, what comes over people to be so cruel? Couldnt they just have dropped him at an SPCA?

Have you been following the story of the Dobie breeder who was murdered? Yikes. I hope at least his puppies are found.

Thanks so much for taking inLogan. Im sure he will return your kindness many times over.

My husband mentions the dobie breeder every day.....and hopes the puppies, who were chipped, help find the connection to the murderer. THAT is just awful.

I totally agree about the terrible murder of the Doberman breeder and the welfare of those poor puppies. My fear is that they were stolen for use in those dispicable dog fighting places. Heaven forbid!!! That’s what they think happened to our recent Doberman rescue, Logan. That he was stolen to use like that, but being such a gentle guy, he proved not to be good for them ( those horrible j**ks🤬)! And so they tied him tightly to a tree out in the middle of nowhere and left him to die😭. Thank goodness some horseback rider happened to spot him and called a Doberman rescue group! And, he’s now and forever our much loved fur kid.

Lynn, we have only ever had rescue dogs, over the years we have had six with as many as three at a time—- always two. Charlie, one of our current dogs, weighed very little when he was rescued along with several other animals after an anonymous tip. They initially thought he was a puppy, but the vet determined he was actually at least two years old; he had a tapeworm and other horrible gastrointestinal problems from eating dirty baby diapers to survive. After he came to live with us he tried to attack any man with a beard or wearing a baseball cap who came into our home or yard . We had to keep him crated when any workmen came, and still leash him ten years later when people he doesn’t know come over. He was on doggy prozac for several years. He fought with our other two dogs for food and we had to feed him separately. It’s taken many years to rehabilitate him and we stuck with it even with grave reservations in the early years because none of that behavior was his nature or his fault (he’s mostly Maltese). Today he is a loving pet and friend and adores our grandchildren. I’ve often tried to think of a punishment that would be appropriate for his abusers and I can’t think of anything bad enough that is legal.

Congratulations! I love Dobermans. It is even more sweet knowing he came from such horrible abuse and has a loving home now.

I just took in 2 rescue horses. One is a Saddlebred named Nimbus, who was a former show horse, and then a broodmare. She is 19.

The other, a Quarter Horse, named Egos Patriot Doll, who was a race horse, then a broodmare but they both ended up at an auction and were bought by kill buyers, who ship horses to Mexico for slaughter. Doll wasn't producing enough milk for her last foal, so when it was 3 months old, they sold her. Small wonder. She was in deplorable condition.

Nimbus has completed her rehab and looks beautiful now. Doll has a long way to go, but she is doing better every day.
