I think the colour of your 2 chairs works well in your room but judging from your pictures, there's a lot going on with furniture and clutter behind the 2 high back chairs. You seem to have too many little items, you need items that give more impact that will show off the nice things you have. I show a large canvas above the buffet with 2 buffet lamps (no much lighting in the room now that I see), a gallery wall on the back wall, and another large canvas above your fireplace. It's also difficult to see what your furniture layout looks like. I would replace the rug with a tone on tone beige or beige with a texture.

Sorry- we’re in the middle of a renovation- i was simply posting pictures of the pieces that will remain. The furniture behind the two recliners wont be there( waiting for folks to come and get them)
Simply focus on the two recliners, the wall unit, the coffee table, red couch and red and cream wing chair. The other picture is our hard wood floor

I am not a color expert, and I am hoping those who are will weigh in here. Having said that, I think your reds fight with the yellows of the butterscotch chair and the honey oak that you have. I think without getting rid of all of the red, it will be hard to make the chairs look more butterscotch.some thing that might tie it together would be throw with both colors in it on both the sofa and the chairs. I like what lisedv did above to try and simplify a very busy room.

Thank you for the input. The red walls are going- the couch and check chair will stay ( repurposed from another room. But those are the only two red pieces remaining.

If I understand what you are trying to do with the chairs, you may trying to make them read more orange. I hear butterscotch but that color name is applied to a range of colors , so it might help others if you look at an array of similar colors and find the one(s) that were your intended color, and what is “ lacking” in the color IRL in your room.

But assuming it’s a degree or orange, then one might use color-wheel theory where opposites tend to emphasize—so, blues might bring out more caramel tones of the leather IF there are some to work with. But, you want to use the cool red sofa as well, and I haven’t thought about how that fits in. So I have no idea how you will set your priorities of what’s most important in the room, manipulating certain color tones or “ marrying“ different solid colors with other elements , some bridging prints, to be as balanced and cohesive as possible. Meaning, you might have to pick your battles.

I did see some room photos with a caramel furniture against a soft medium blue wall —kind of a heritage color—with accents of black & white. Just great. So the caramel was a good contrast against its color wheel opposite. But no red was in that room.

You may be able to search HOUZZ room photo files using your floor color, different wall colors & see if there’s a color palette that turns up that is any kind of inspo for you. I am definitely not a color expert, so maybe someone else will weigh in. Even so, color recommendations can’t really tell you, “ buy this paint tomorrow “, but maybe direct you to colors to sample. Sometimes it leads you to sample things you’d never have thought.

You can order Samplize squares. Also I have pulled out clothing, towels, tablecloths to put next to furnishings to get ideas. Like being “ draped” for color analysis!

I know when we brought the new chairs in the room the existing red walk mAde the chairs look blah. Kind of beigish. Im hoping if i find the right cream color it will bring a little life to the chairs. There is red in the wall unit with the primary color as a honey pine ( i thought it was oak- hubby just corrected me). That looks fine together so im hoping the chairs will work. Ill have to make it work. Just need to find the wall color that will serve as a good backdrop.

Go with a neutral wall colour, find a colourful area rug with the colours of your furniture (red, butterscotch) plus the blue (you have a blue trim on your wall unit), and assorted accent pillows with those same colours. That's quite a mix of colours that you want to use, result is something like this...

Printing is a great idea.
I moved into home with taupe walls and chose wall colors before the walls were primed , and I know it affected how I perceived the sample colors.

Thank you for these ideas. The accent color is actually green not blue- but i get the idea.

By your pasting the chairs on the background that you did, it already made the chairs a more palatable color to me!

Would a braided rug work with these pieces as well as provide the variety of colors?

To me a braided rug is very cottage looking, is that the look you want? Seems to me the room is more of a classic look.
