I love any type of bamboo, reed, wooden or woven shades. I have them in almost all the rooms in my house, and even in my screened porch. They add a lovely neutral color and texture, and work with almost any decor. I would not hesitate to use them in your living room.

Keep in mind that there are so many colors, styles and degrees of opacity so you will need to choose carefully depending on what look you want, the privacy and light control that you need in the room. Most of them can be lined as well, so you only see white from the outside.

I hate both why a window covering that blocks the veiw in order to control the heat and UV . Organic or not winsows are for the view. I love solar shades they disappear ,control heat and UV let you keep the view give daytime privacy and when mixed with nice linen drapes night time privacy

A side question on this topic which may be of interest to OP; woven shades combined with drapes is such an elegant, complete look and I very much like the images above but less so when the shades are hung inches lower than the rod. Is that look considered a style fail?

Natural blinds bring so much texture to rooms (I think most rooms don’t have enough of it and that’s why they feel flat) - I have used bamboo blinds + Ikea’s linen curtain panels in many homes over the years

No.......it is intelligent design: )

The rings on a rod create a "drop". The rod has a clearance .....and in those pics? The shades were very intentionally mounted nine inches above the window, outside mount.....to disguise the fact that the builder *&^^%$$ used the same setting position for the windows....despite the lack of a transom above. ( l the great room picture ) -, leaving a vast amount of ill proportioned, ugly header in a room with nine foot ceilings.. The pleats? Are at the very top of the shade....they cannot be lower.: ), nor can the rod.

I know what you're saying lisaam. Those shades look to be inside mount, so they can't go any higher. But it does look awkward with that blank white wall above the shades. Jan's shades are not mounted like that.

BTW, Jan, Vintage Malibu is my all-time FAVORITE Horizons shade! I have it in several rooms in my house and clients' homes!
