It is PLAIN on the wall.......of course it is. You have no window treatments beyond white shades, nothing under the tv. You have no rug. Do you WANT a sectional?

What colors do you like? Do you have a room you like to describe what you love?

Start by compiling an Ideabook. You only have one picture in yours now. To start, add pictures that you like fairly indiscriminately, then after you have a couple dozen, try to pick out common features or styles and discard the ones that don't fit. Non-professionals frequently have trouble with consistency. You need to refine your style and keep your focus to end up with a coherent design. However, your kitchen isn't really contemporary, so you don't have to do anything aggressively modern. Try filtering the pictures by Transitional style and see if that appeals to you.

Eclectic is a very difficult style for a non-professional to execute well. If that's what really makes your heart sing, you should engage a designer to help you make it work. Remember that we can't always fit all of our good ideas into one room or house.

It looks like you could easily do a layout with a sofa facing the TV, with 2 chairs on one side of the sofa and a console under the TV. Then also look at a rug to help ground the space, side tables, and a coffee table. The fireplace area, we might recommend 2 chairs facing the fireplace with a small rug grounding them.
