I actually don’t mind the upholstered ottoman, it’s multi use, coordinates with floor and is a nice color contrast to the sectional. I would edit out some decor pieces, there’s a lot going on in a small space. The black and white photos in the black frames are a little out of place along with the wood carved floral panel above the fireplace. Too many small furniture, decor items. Also, could the couch pull forward to the person taking the photo, creating a small alley behind the couch in front of the window, and aligning the center of the couch with the fireplace. Play around a bit, pull most decor items out and only put the one’s back you really like. Happy decorating!

Agree with Jill Nelson Design, but you also need a larger rug. I appears you have matchstick blinds wich don’t work with sheers. I like my upholstered ottoman/coffee table with a tray, but I also have a pour ottoman so more than one person can put their feet up.

We can't really see the photos, so I don't know how (or why) someone would say they are out of place, when you are asking about your coffee table. If you like them there, that's all that matters; they could be lowered a few inches to bring them down to a better viewing height

I actually like the ottoman you have. The style looks nice with your sofa, the color complements the wood top table, basket and floor colors. Unless you absolutely hate it, I would just keep it. Maybe look for a couple of pillows that combine the sofa and ottoman colors. The rug looks great there; I suspect any larger and it won't fit between the wall and fireplace. It's a nice room! These may not be your style...

I also like your ottoman. I also have one that can be pulled up to the sofa in order to form a chaise on one end (or just pulled up even with the middle of the sofa - so that everyone can put their feet up while watching a movie). I decided to have a wood waterfall table made that fits over the ottoman = it works better than a tray when using the ottoman as a coffee table (it's on recessed wheels - so, it can simply be rolled over to one side - or completely away from the ottoman).

I agree with Olychick - you don't need a larger rug + you can use some pillows to tie the ottoman and sofa (sectional) together. If you decide to keep the ottoman + select some pillows, take a photo of it from in front of the sofa - people will be able to suggest some art for your wall.

It looks like those photos may be black and whites of your children? If so, I think that they can work with your room. I know the "style" is to completely de-personalize everything on your main floor - but I don't know why that became the rule for design. You could add some colored mats to the photos - I've seen some nice looking suede ones that were done in colors to help tie other items in a room together (similar to using the accent pillows).
