Replacement options for interior spotlight?

Hi there. Our home has this dual ceiling light in the living room. It's a high, angled ceiling. A couple questions...

1) Does this look really outdated? The home was built in the 90s.

2) What would be a suitable replacement for this that would provide a timeless look but still offer the functionality of having extra light? I don't want to eliminate it completely.

In my mind it is fine as is. Wait until you have lived in the house for a while and determine an overall plan of attack for what you like and what you do not like.

It looks randomly placed, so it would bother me. I would price out doing several recessed light for the whole room, they make them for sloped ceilings. Also plan on adding some table or floor lamps to your overall design.

look for something with a bit of a downrod to allow for the slope

Since you have that source for electric I'd take advantage and mount a track to receive adjustable lights for your room.

Before replacing the fixture the questions to ask are (a) what does the light illuminate, and (b) does that area require illumination? It appears purposeless to me so I'd remove it, wire nut the wires, and attach a cover to the electrical box.

I garee with wd what is it you need the lighting for ? To light the space , art what? I do not think track light is the answer but maybe some pot lights LEDs where you actually need lighting . First arrange the furniture at lease on paper to figure out where the lighting is needed . I will tell you right now to ignore that FP when arranging furniture it is in a bad spat and trying to keep it as a focal point will make you crazy . Put the TV on the wall next to the window and use that as the focal point .

Yes for goodness sake, figure out your furniture arrangement and lighting needs before going to, “ is this outdated”. Who knows whether you need extension to downlighting over certain seating, more layers of light depending on lamps, lighting artwork on the wall.

Overhead lights are great in a kitchen workspace, but unflattering in a living space. Light overhead that high is not good for reading or tv watching. It is not soothing or romantic. It casts weird shadows on faces. I, too, would have it removed and covered.
