Cabinet crown moulding riser thicker than cabinet sides

last year
last modified: last year

I'm installing a riser along the top of an upper cabinet that will eventually have crown moulding. The cabinet has plywood sides and a panel to make the side flush with the face frame. The filler that I have to use for the riser is 3/4" thick and the cabinet side is a strong 1/16" thinner. I want the riser to be flush with the outside of the cabinet. I planned to mount some plywood backing inside the top of the cabinet (see photo) but that pushes the riser out past the side of the cabinet. How is this usually installed?
