    I just saw this too!

Very sad that we are losing some of the best online vendors. Personally I can drive to Regan if there is something I really want, but feel bad for those who cannot.

It sure makes me glad I am not new to rose gardening. If it continues this way people are not going to have any choices on where to get roses except locally or the terribly expensive Etsy type stores

Those that remain or new startups will flourish. The trend toward own root container grown roses continues.

I was shocked when I got the email today from Regan's ! One by one good reputable rose nurseries are closing or not shipping online .

Losing both Regans and palatine is a blow to the bare root options. Some of my best bare root roses have come ftom them

It looks like some of the smaller rose nurseries will be overwhelmed this coming spring.

I just saw this. Not good. Regan was one of my first and best sources. This will leave a mark.

I was impressed with the 2 bare root roses I received this year, first time ordering from them. I thought I had found a replacement for losing Palatine. Any idea what’s causing this?

My guess would be all the oddball sellers on Etsy, not to mention other new online sellers of varying reputation, are giving traditional online sellers the fits. I'll just stick with my fabulous local nursery, though I don't anticipate many rose purchases next year (Scentuous, where are you?). Diane

They said they can’t compete with big-box stores, but to me, that’s just an excuse. If they already have the season harvest, what are they planning to do with it? Selling in CA only?!

I just woke up and saw the email (third shifter, 3pm).

This is just terrible. None of this is normal.

We are clearly heading for another rose "dark ages" and it seems societally as well.

    I'm quite upset.

I wonder if something happened to the crop?

I gasped when I saw the email and it's another tragic demise of a great bare root company. I think they are another small family vendor that is getting overwhelmed with the online orders and shipping and are trying to scale back. The competition from big box stores and other vendors can't help I'm sure, but in the long run I expect they are taking a smaller route to selling roses.

I suppose the crop is being moved into their on-site sales or transferred to another vendor. From what I understand in discussions on GW, there is a difference in most of the companies from the grower and the vendor. Here's hoping some of the varieties exclusive to Regan's moves to another vendor.

I wish them all the best and I will miss them.

I am pretty new to rose gardening and only ordered from Regan once. But I will always remember the heat when it got to the open date I eushed to order a few roses, Florentina, Lavender’s Crush, Firefighter, Sheila’s Perfume. That was fun and the plants were great. I wish them well maybe as Cynthia said they were overwhelmed and could not handle all the shipping and decided to scale down and focus on growing.

Someone (on facebook )visited Regan and the owner said that they were quitting online shipments because they couldn’t compete with big box stores like HD and Lowes. The Nursery also sits on some prime real estate in Silicon Valley, so might get sold. Regan does not raise any roses, they get their bareroots from Francis, DA,Star, Weeks, Certified etc like most other retailers.

Good for them! No drama than.

By the way, beware, 'All Ye Who Drool (me included!), At The Otherworldly Japanese Roses), sold by questionable, unresearched Etsy sellers. My recent 'purchase,' on Etsy....not a rose, unfortunately went awry.

I purchased a Wedgewood vase as a gift for my good friends' daughter instead of the usual gift given to a recovering surgery patient....doing very well, BTW. I paid through PayPal, gave the mailing address to the 'seller,' of the patient and waited for an order confirmation from Etsy. PayPal promptly paid the 'seller,' and the purchase amount paid to the 'seller,' was deducted from my bank account.

Within 24 hrs the 'seller,' sent me an email message identifying themself using both first and last name, telling me that it's been years since Etsy was their selling venue, and how that the ad of the Wedgewood vase was still on Etsy's site, could not possibly be logically explained.

Every effort I made to get my money back both from PayPal and through Etsy's intervention produced zero success. I tried everything! Everything!

My lesson here is to venturing into the world of Etsy can be like Hansel eating some of the wicked witch's delectable house. You won't know what hit you until the deed leaves you missing something...in my case, just $$.

With the bare root rose retailers folding, beware of whom you make your future purchases, especially through Etsy!

I read an article earlier this year that the property Regan's is located on (which they don't own) is slated for development. I didn't do a search for it, but I'm sure you can find it if you look. So my gut feeling is that they are preparing to either move or drastically downsize soon. The email mentioned no longer having the capacity to cold storage so many roses as they currently do for shipping later in spring.

Edit: here's the link with the info on the development: https://www.fremont.gov/government/departments/community-development/planning-building-permit-services/fremont-decoto-land-development-plan

Moses, I am so sorry that happened yo you. Paypal is usually really good about refunds

Maybe I'm being a little edgy, but I'm watching Edmunds. I'm also keeping my eye on the big online nurseries (Michigan Bulbs, Ect.). At the moment I'm not too worried about Witherspoon, K&M and Wisconsin Roses.

I only ordered from Regan once. Lavender Crush and unfortunately it definitely was not. Still, its sad to see another rose co. go down. Maybe if its just a matter of space & having to move, they will resume sales at a later date.
